It had all started when Fox was interrogating Wolf a couple of years after the Lylat Wars, more than enough time for the events of the war to ferment inside Fox's mind. He had managed to track down Wolf and, through a combination of grit and determination, managed to convince Wolf to squeal.

"Do you really think I had anything to do with your dad's death?"
"Why should I think otherwise?"
"I was only there to clean up the mess. It was Pigma that did the dirty work! You really think Andross would bother dealing with your dad?"
"What difference does it make? He still betrayed my father."
"Yeah... but he was the one that pulled the trigger."

It set off an inferno that had been kindled for years. Fox already knew that Pigma was responsible for the betrayal of the old Star Fox team. He just didn't know how much.
Shock turned into disbelief. Disbelief turned into denial. Denial then turned into anger, a raging ember that refused to fade.

From there it turned into a manhunt of sorts, almost turning into the point of obsession. His teammates started becoming concerned for Fox's mental state. Slippy was naturally concerned for his leader. Falco even got concerned about Fox's occasional outbursts. But Peppy was the most concerned of all, in part because he was praying that things wouldn't get worse. He still remembered Pigma from the past, once a loyal friend and a valuable ally. He obviously didn't condone what he did - but felt that he should be brought to justice - alive.

The hunt led the Star Fox team towards the Sargasso Space Zone, a natural place for any criminal to hide out and share in their spoils. Fox and Peppy had managed to sneak inside without getting noticed, and Fox managed to find the slob drinking away, with a couple of hookers, no doubt. Fox stormed up to Pigma, and while Pigma pretended not to know him, Fox didn't hold back, grabbing him by his collar.

"I know what you did, Pigma. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
"Wait a minute," Pigma smiled nervously. "Surely there must be a misunderstanding!"
"It's too late for bargaining, Pigma..."

Sensing trouble, Pigma broke free from Fox's grasp and ran off, but Fox chased closely after him. Pushing aside a few bar patrons, Pigma struggled to get out of Fox's sight, and he knew he wouldn't be able to run away from Fox forever. Peppy noticed the uproar coming from the bar, and ran over to investigate, noticing Pigma running away from Fox.

Pigma had managed to stumble himself into a dark room, containing a few walls with no other way out. Fox, having no blaster on him to avoid suspicion, broke into an emergency axe box, and brought the axe into the room with Pigma. Pigma saw the sharp blades on the axe, as his heart started to pound more rapidly.

"P-please, Fox! I'll do anything!"

Fox said nothing, walking slowly towards Pigma as he glared straight at him, determined to enact his revenge.

Peppy saw Fox enter the darkroom, and got himself towards the front of the door, noticing Fox holding the axe as he stepped closer towards Pigma, who was terrified out of his mind. A sense of dread soon filled inside Peppy, as he shouted as loud as he could to grab Fox's attention. "FOX! STOP!"

But Fox had no plans to listen.

Within a flash, he swung the axe straight at Pigma, striking him across his neck. Pigma screamed in utter agony, as Fox continued to strike at Pigma, with blood spilling all over the walls, his clothing, all over the place. The man Pigma once was started to morph into an unrecognizable mound of flesh, carved up indiscriminately as Peppy could only look on in horror, seeing the boy who once rode on his back, now murdering someone in cold blood. The fact that it was Pigma didn't matter to him - nobody deserved to die this way.

It was all over in a matter of seconds; a minute at most. Fox took a step back and glanced blankly at what remained of Pigma, his corpse lying motionless in a messy pool of blood. It didn't bother Fox at all that the blood was now all over his own clothes, but Peppy could see the blood dripping from Fox's hands. It was a stain that wouldn't easily be washed away, both inside and out.
