It's based on a line in Dr. Strangelove that went something like "No fighting in the War Room!"
That 1st & 4th panel pretty much hits the nail on the head.

I just needed an excuse for a funny-looking cartoon man to suffer great slapstick-induced harm and I thought the guy torturing himself for "Likes" and "Follows" was a good excuse for that.
