PC76 Plasma Carbine - Design Sketches (Fallout)

Share

The Winchester PC76 or the "Plasma Carbine" as it's informally referred is a shortened variant of the P76 Plasma Rifle. Though the "Urban" Plasma Rifle would later become the unofficial standard during the Sino-American War due to resource shortages, the United States Government had formally requested Winchester to design a standard-issue combat plasma rifle to replace the bulky, aging P94 design. In response, Winchester began development on the far more compact, man-portable P76 Plasma Rifle. In the middle of the contract however, the U.S. Government returned to Winchester to additionally commission a carbine variant of the P76 design. Running on short notice, Winchester's weapons development specialists came up with and rigorously tested a variety of design concepts in tandem with the US Army and Marine Corps. The P76 Plasma Rifle, along with the PC76 Plasma Carbine, both had finally entered production just a year before the Great War, with limited distribution to a few Airborne Paratrooper Divisions and Special Operations Groups overseas. As a result, both of the models are extremely rare to stumble across in the Wasteland.

A commission I did awhile ago for a fallout fan friend of mine over discord. The objective was to create three concept sketches for a carbine-styled Plasma weapon, since Fallout only has straight Plasma Rifles. Of course, since I have 0 experience designing any kind of weaponry let alone designing fictional retro-futuristic science-fiction type weaponry, I had to channel my inner nerd and do some research. In between spending an unhealthy amount of time reading up on Fallout lore, observing and taking note of fictional plasma weapon design in other franchises, and the design philosophies of various designs for US service weapons such as the M16 and the M4, I started to sketch lots of different ideas as I went along. Eventually, I refined and further developed these sketches into the final designs that are on display here. (The writing on the stock is something that my friend specifically requested, presumably for a unique variant of the normal weapon.)

While this isn't really the type of stuff I'm known for drawing, to this day I still feel proud of these designs since I put a lot of sweat and passion into them.
