I've been going through Ctrl+Paint cause I want to learn how to paint, and I just got to the constructional drawing part of the fundamentals section. I used that cool scout tf2 portrait as a reference. A lot of the proportions are off, and I think a lot of that comes from me not being able to simplify the portrait into shapes well enough. For example I had a lot of trouble with the ear piece and chest. I've been practicing the loomis head through proko, so I got to try that out which was cool. I didn't get the expression down but I don't really know how to draw facial features so I gotta practice those. It was fun to do the shading cause I could see what the reference did, but I think next time I do this I'm gonna try the shading by myself.
