Always a sucker for painting that really makes every brush stroke count—not to mention girls—and this achieves a remarkable economy of brushwork to convey so much rich and vivid detail. Contrasting warm tones in the foreground with cooler shades in the back, and the sharper edges and finer detail for our main heroine, plus her posing and expression, weave a tapestry of subtext that elevates these rage comic mainstays farther beyond their humble origins—not that I myself have seen a great deal of rage-comic-based art.

It's the juxtaposition of that demure daughterliness with the context of her character and the nervousness she conveys—the clash of glamor and elegance against her inescapable ditziness. On the one hand, crossed legs, elaborately-done up hair, Betty Brown shoes. On the other, her finger nervously twirling that hair and that intent, mildly neurotic gaze. I could go on and on about how every minute detail, not just on her but throughout this piece, conveys some subtle connotation that aggregates into a classic dichotomy of outer vs. inner self given socioeconomic form, but I really encourage whatever poor sop who's reading this to to take a closer look and extract your own interpretations as well. I shy away from superlatives, but artists taking a lot of care in portraying literal memes is one of my favorite things to see and a genuine personal inspiration.
