RTO: The Nowhere

Venturing deeper into the Realm of Darkness, Sora finds his memories returning further to him, but his memories of Namine seem to fade, as if someone wants him to forget her. Regardless, he clings on and keeps going, but eventually, the Darkness swirling between worlds makes him sleepy and he takes a nap, awakening near a horrifying world where a young boy named Mono cries out for help through a TV screen. Upon freeing him, Sora notices a strange emptiness in his eyes. Mono sets out searching for someone named Six, who Sora runs into while trying out the TV portals. As it turns out, Six and Mono were friends once, until an incident, and before either of them know it, Mono nabs Six and pulls her through the TV, with Sora chasing after.

"I don't know where you're from, but I learned one thing out there. You'll only drag other people down, and they'll only drag you down too. The only one you can count on is yourself. I hoped he'd like it in there like I did. Or I hoped the fall would end him. Then only one of us would have to keep living in this horrible world..."

 -Six's Thoughts

Mono shakes Sora off his tail and Sora winds up in a ruined restaurant called the Maw, which is now inhabited by Nomes, left over kids, Shadow Children, and Rain, the daughter of the late owner, who seems to be made of Darkness, as is her assistant Seven. The two become fast friends with Sora and seem to recognize his description of Six, letting Sora know that a great Darkness lingers in her Heart. Regardless, Sora refuses to let her or Mono lose their Hearts and alongside his new friends, searches for wherever Mono took her. Along the way, Sora ponders Mono's emptiness, wondering if he's a Nobody like the Organization and he's drawn to Six for some reason.

"His smile looked kinda empty when I met him, but when he saw Six, he looked so much more alive..."

 -Sora

Eventually, the three confront Mono, who has Six under the power of some strange signal he's tied to. They fight the two and bring them back to their senses, Sora severing the broadcast's connection to Mono. Now (somewhat) in their right state of mind, Mono and Six uneasily resolve their past scuffle, only for the tower to start collapsing, seperating Sora, Six, and Mono from Rain and Seven. They all escape the tower to find that it's Corrupted and they must defeat it to free this world from its grasp. Once the dust clears, Sora's ready to continue his journey, musing that bonding with Six seemed to have given Mono a Heart, something that intrigues him.

"Growing Hearts? That sounds amazing... Wait, I don't want one now, I feel like trash. How do I rip it out?"

 -Namine

Easter Eggs

  • Sora uses the TV's to go to different parts of the world, each area appearing on a map. The map has some secret areas he can access, like the Hunter's house in the Wilderness or the Pretender's Nest.
  • The Hunter's house has a reference to another Namco horror game, as the mask from Splatterhouse can be found under a nightstand.
  • The Nest area has the Craftsman's red goggles among the grass, as well as the Butler's handcuffs.
  • The Airship Six is on has a painting of Six's big sister as a kid with their "parents" in the background.
  • Fivelen, the sister in question, can be met in her room, where she's singing in front of a window. Staying near her will cause Sora and his party members to sway in a trance as she sings.
  • Fivelen's room also has a portrait of her and the Lady meeting. But while the Lady is her usual stoic self, Fivelen is... well, you ever seen that guy's picture of himself pointing at the Emperor in Mulan?
  • Hitting the music box in Six's room causes it to play a version of Six's theme.
  • The Maw is full of kids released from the lower levels and Shadow Kids that Rain now has command of. The Shadow Kids have a habit of following Sora around, but they thankfully won't attack him.
  • There's a tattered painting of Rain and the Lady leaning around on a balcony.
  • On that same balcony, if Sora looks out at a distant, out-of-reach area, he can see the legs of someone hanging.
  • The little statues Six could break are present too, and Sora can break them as well.
  • Sora can find a secret area in the Maw that has a shrine to the Lady.

Rain: Mother.

  • Sora can find the room Six fought the Lady in, but the Lady's body is gone. Her broken mask and the mirror are still on the floor though.
  • Sora can find a stool with Roger the Janitor's hat on it.
  • Sora can also find a passage to the Nomes' Hideaway. Looking at the Nomes' shadows against the fireplace shows the shadows of kids.
  • Sora can find the Twin Chefs' masks hidden away under a table.
  • Sora can find a security room much like the ones in the original game. From there, he can view the nursery (Which is now empty), the room full of shoes (With something burrowing around beneath them), the kitchen (Where some of the kids and Nomes are trying to make meals with vegetables), the Lady's Quarters (Which are quiet and dusty), and the Depths (With the Lady's kimono floating around in the water).
  • Staring at a mirror will cause in the bathroom will reveal the hanging Bellman, a scrapped character from the first game.
  • Going out on the beach of the Maw, Sora can see a boat in the distance (The same one the Guests usually arrive on). Staring at it will cause... something to pull the whole boat below the waters.
  • The Ferryman's boat is also present on the beach, with his hat and jacket on there as well.
  • While searching for Six and Mono, the party wind up in the School, where Sora can find a lot of wrecked Bullies, including a bunch of them in the cafeteria where Mono fought them, complete with the ladle he wielded.
  • There are lockers with names scratched on them, but two lockers next to each other are marked "Sisi" and "Otto", two characters who have important roles in the Sounds of Nightmares podcast. It's likely a coincidence though.
  • There's a lollipop left alone in the hallway, referencing a kid who fought the Bullies with one in the webcomics.
  • In the classroom, one of the desks has Pac-Man and the ghosts he fights scratched onto it.
  • Sora can find a note behind the Teacher's desk in the classroom...

"So loud. Lot of noise. Mean lady, long neck. Mean kids, heads break. Hungry, scared, want home. No home."

  • In the library, Sora can find something scratched on the side of a bookshelf that says "Noone was here". Noone is a girl from the podcast.
  • There's a book hiding some treasure behind it called "The North Wind Calls", referencing a monster from the comics.
  • When fighting the Teacher, Seven will yell "Throw a TV at her!" which sounds like he's being an idiot, but since he's the Runaway Kid, the last evil old lady he fought was killed by a TV, via electrocution. If Sora uses Thunder on the Teacher, Seven will yell "See!? It works!"
  • While exploring the Pale City streets, Sora can find a ghost sheet stuck on a storm drain. A kid in the webcomics wore that same sheet.
  • Looking down the other end of the street, Sora can see a thundercloud-filled sky. Whenever lightning strikes, he can see a shadow of the Thin Man in the clouds.
  • Under a bench, Sora can find a note...

"I see her shadow, it's waving at me. I have to find her, she's all I have. She's the only light in this place. Without her, I feel empty..."

  • Sora can also find a Mannequin Patient from the Hospital buried in a dumpster.
  • Sora can find a poster for Fivelen's performances as well. It's a tad tattered.
  • Running up a wall to an open window will show a room with a broken TV and clothes on the floor. Plus a note...

"It's been ages since this place has seen daylight. I've been hearing noises from my neighbors. I dare not go out and see what they're doing. The streets below have gotten so quiet. The screaming stopped. I can't believe I want it back. The TV is the only thing that's comforting. It's bright. It's beautiful. I need to watc-"

  • There's a secret room accessible through a window with portraits of these handsome faces.
  • There's also a closed barber shop with a huge pair of scissors sticking into the sign, referencing the scrapped Barber from the second game.
  • Shadow Six can be seen watching Sora and company from numerous areas, but vanishes if they get too close.
  • Standing still in the Signal Tower for a while will result in a static face forming on the screen looking at you, Fatal Frame style.
  • The Signal Tower, upon being rebuilt and controlled by Mono post-story, has a secret area that's a perfect recreation of Sora's room on Destiny Islands.

Sora: Uh, Mono, this is nice, but how did you-?

Rain: He remade our bedrooms too.

Mono: In case you get homesick.

Six: Weird.

Seven: I never had a bedroom so I just got a room with a bed and people standing around telling me my life matters! It's what I've always wanted!

  • Exploring the Maw post-story will open up a path to secret room where Sora can fight his own shadow.

SoraWhat the heck was that!?

Rain: Your own inner turmoil with the concepts of Light and Darkness given form.

Six: It was just his shadow.
