Share

Kuruma Nikuras and Baronsaurus were the two Kaiju in the 23rd and 24th Episodes of the Spectreman tv series: "Traffic Accident Monster Kuruma-Nikuras" and "Danger-- Kuruma-Nikuras".

Baronsaurus was among the 6 revived kaiju in Ep.27 of the show.

_Appearances and Abilities_

Kuruma Nikuras (Kurumanikurasu or just Kuruma in the English Dub) is a bi-product of a child's mind and among the monster in the show NOT created by Gori; the creature actually started as a toy a father design for his son, but when the boy is hit by a car and left in a coma, his active imagination somehow manifest Kuruma Nikuras into reality, attacking speeding cars, subconsciously acting in rage for the driver hitting him and running away, specially if the vehicle is an open roof convertible sport car. It had a humanoid like appearance with a traffic theme to it; sporting a Red/Yellow/Green traffic lights for eyes, a tire skid mark on its skin, the white subdivision lines of the road on its legs, and what appears to be the front grill of a car attach to its chest and left leg and had two hooks for hands. The monster had its spike column quite visibly protruding from its back. Kuruma had a croak like sound to its cry.

Despite holding a hostile grudge towards cars, Kuruma was not malicious, as well playful: this is evident by the fact that since the monster was conjure from the mind of a child, the playful childlike tendencies of the boy manifested in its character, not wanting to fight Spectreman, and gleefully teasing Baronsaurus in the respected first encounters with them, but this makes it quite naive, as it joins to side with Gori. It also showed to not move when a traffic light was in Red.

Beside its hooks, Kuruma Nikuras spew a black smoke from its mouth to blind it enemies and drivers and when doing so it creates the sound of a car's Escape pipe on full throttle; the monster was capable of invisibility as well teleportation along with it. It was able to change its size.

Baronsaurus (Baronzaurusu or Baru in the English Dub)started as drawing that Karas saw from the child (who would later conjure Kuruma Nikuras into beign) and photograph it. Though 14th overall after Kuruma Nikuras in the Roster, makes it 13th produced by Gori's Science. The Monster is Godzilla-esque in design, that is your standard bipedal reptile monster with two arms and a long tail, with a row of dorsal fins on its back; but its head was adorn with 4 spikes, two right in front of the eyes (dunno how could it see) and two in the lower jaw; in its mouth is sport a row of teeth which ended with two larger ones. An odd feature of this kaiju was sporting its skeleton(?) outside its body, which ran over it and down to its tail.

It could burrow through the ground; it use its tail as a whip and jump very high. The monster fired a red color Suspending ray from its mouth that freeze even flying jets in its place while mid air. With its horns, is could impale its enemies. It's cry began as a groan that ended in a screech.

Interestingly, Baronzaurus was originally a kaiju named Valgodon; this monster was used only for promotion for the stage shows of Leopardman. Valgodon was use in Spectreman promotional material, but the suit would remodified to become Baronzaurus – given a color change from brown to green, the exo-skeleton been added, spikes been change from a square to triangular and the horn on its head been added.

_History_

In an series about the harms of human pollution, maniacal Alien Apes, Hero Cyborgs and Kaiju, this story is the obligatory PSA one Traffic Accidents which was common at the time.

Karas is sent to the city to collect research for Gori - in one of his best disguises yet – and with a camera, takes a photo of a child's drawing of a Kaiju (the one that would be Baronzaurus). There after, the Nicholas' father arrives and gift his son a toy figure he designed at work (the one that would be Kuruma Nikuras); the moment of joy however is sour when Nicholas, wanting to show the toy to her mother, runs into oncoming traffic and is hit by a careless driver running fast, who speeds away from the site running from his problems, much to the understandable nagging of his girlfriend.

Anecdote: As I understand, this was an unfortunate trend at the time with reckless drivers hitting children; I recall watching one Godzilla reviewer, while talking of Godzilla's Revenge, stated this is and how Children began to wear the bright yellow caps in Japan, as a sign to drivers to slow dafuk down.

The hit and run causes national sensation; George and Margaret head to the University for a different reason, and George still sneaks into the press conference anyways and hears and takes to the plight of the family when Nicholas begins to convulse; Elsewhere, the monster Kuruma Nikuras attacks a convertible in the road. George is later kicked out from the room by the parents when they learn he was a research. On the way they hear the news of the string of accidents with a Monster suddenly appearing, when another reckless driver cuts right in front of them only for the Speed-Happy Demon getting his comeuppance at the hooks of Kuruma Nikuras. The suddenness of the appearance, stuns Margaret out cold only for her to come into, with George missing, and Spectreman facing the new monster.

However, Spectreman comes to realize the monster is not one of Gori's, remembering the toy figure of the comatose child at the hospital; the unfolding events do not go unnoticed by Gori. Despite the standoff, the Monster began to phase in an out, avoiding Spectreman, but crushing a sport car before leaving; Spectreman takes this clue in mind, while Gori plots to take control of the Kuruma with the help of his new Kaiju, Baronsaurus. George returns to the Margaret and the two have a conversation about the relation of new Monster and the doll of the Comatose child; the force of his imagination, along with the Electrical Energy of his brain, have manifested the Doll to life, seeking revenge on all cars.

Not long after, the couple from the accident have an argument about the string of accidents cause by the monster, the girlfriend spouting (somehow correctly) is the child they hit is searching for them when at that moment they have their encounter with Kuruma Nikuras itself – they escape, but run into George and Margaret; wanting to talk to them, the Driver (Sammy) tries to attack George but is subdued by the protagonist, correctly identifying him as the hit and run driver. Kuruma appears in front of them, as well Baronsaurus emerges from the ground to subdued Kuruma.

The battle to subdue Kuruma proved difficult for Baronzaurus, as the former constantly face in and out, playing with the Kaiju, much to its annoyance, specially as it topples over (the scene seems to indicate he topple over a bridge when charging – it was poorly put together) causing Kuruma to toy with the kaiju, the child like tendencies of the boy emerging in its character. The whole situation is complicated when JSDF Tanks and Jets showed up and attack; Kuruma disappears to watch Baronsaurus face the full barrage of the JSDF. The Kaiju is able to decimate the whole JSDF and Kuruma, not wanting to miss it, joins in the fun, gaining their trust, just as Spectreman shows up to stop further destruction and trying to convince Kuruma, but Gori acting fast, takes both Kuruma and Baronsaurus away.

After the battle, Sammy bails on everyone trying to avoid his responsibility, but with the same recklessness shown thus far, he crashes and is taken to the same hospital where the boy he hit is interned. In the meantime, Gori and Karas tried to reprogram Kuruma to obey them, but the Monster escapes with its teleportation. Kuruma then appears in the middle of the city destroying everything in its path, while obeying the traffic lights, but when the creature grabbed a car it came to realize it had a family in it and he safely put them away, briefly making it realize the destruction it cause; but its hostile nature reignited when seeing a fast moving car going after it, Gori sends Baronsaurus once more to capture it. The two Kaiju meet up and Baronsaurus tries act friendly, even playing dumb, yet Kuruma takes no chances; but when Baronsaurus tries to crush a School Bus full of Children, Kuruma stops the evil Kaiju and a battle between the two ensued.

To solve the issue with Kuruma, George must find a way to help the boy; at the hospital, Sammy meets the family and the conversation with seeing the boy begins to cause a level of remorse for the harm he caused to them. There after, when George gets to see Sammy, the driver confesses. When walking out of the hospital, Baronsaurus appears, likely coming after Nicholas – George heads back to help the family escape, but is force to Transform into Spectreman to get them out of harms way, he then battles the Monster; however in the ensuing attack, Sammy is severely hurt when protecting Margaret and his girlfriend from falling debris.

Keeping the Kaiju away from the family, Spectreman beats the monster up, kicking it, then tossing it like a ball. Baronsaurus doesn't deter easily, grabs and tosses buildings onto Spectreman, but Kuruma comes to his aid, grabbing one of the buildings and tossing it back at Baronsaurus, allowing Spectreman to finish the Kaiju by blasting a hole with its Spectre Flash. Afterwards, Spectreman has a talk with Kuruma, calling it by his real name. In the meantime, knowing he is going to die, Sammy asks for the boy's well being, with his last breath wishing for Nicholas to live on and admitting his wrong doing for his recklessness, wanting the parents to know he was responsible before he finally passing away. Possibly sensing the last moments of Sammy's remorse and not wanting to fight Spectreman, Kuruma finally fades away allowing for Nicholas to wake up, allowing for the parents to field joy and relief their son have recovered.

The Episode ends with a message to drivers to be responsible when behind the wheel.

Many Months later, ( Ep.27 - "And the Dead Shall Rise") Baronsaurus, along with 5 other Gori Kaiju, was revived to tests the strenght of Gori's latests Cyborg creation – Silver Robo. During the events, it fought Satan King, killing the kaiju by impaling it with its Horns; Baronsaurus then face Gokinosaurus, the latter throw the former down the mountain and the Cockroach tried to fly away, only to be killed by Silver Robo. Baronsaurus then face Silver, punching it to no effect. The Cyborg then grabbed the Kaiju and tossed it away next to Mogunetudon, startling the latter who then finished Baronsaurus with its fire breath.
