Toonami's Canceled Fanart Contest - Soul Eater

Share

So I guess I can post this myself then.

There's a story behind this. This was my entry into Toonami's fan art contest held on their official Facebook account where people could send in original fan art of shows they ran, currently or previously, or of just TOM and SARA, through their email, and they would select ones they liked and broadcast them on the air. This was a fun thing to do without any monetization or any strings attached, although we still had to sign a contract upon sending our email, which detailed all the specifics of how they'll use the artwork and who owns the rights to them. Upon seeing their first bump in December, it turned out they could only use peoples' REAL NAMES. While a lot of artists love to have the exposure, you know I NEVER use anything here other than my username, and prefer to keep my public and private identities secret, as this account contains NSFW content that certain people I Know would get upset about. I was panicking for the day they'd eventually show MINE, because I knew I had a very good chance they would pick mine anyway, and then I would be found out. In a panic, I messaged the Toonami FB group, who just told me I signed a contract anyway (there was no specification that they had to use my real name). I changed my username in a lot of other sites. And I even contacted Toonami Squad and Toonami Faithful not to support the Youtube upload by spreading it around (this is back when I had Twitter). To make matters worse, it discovered they didn't do it WEEKLY, but MONTHLY, meaning I had to wait all through the holidays to stress about it! When they did air a second bump in January ... they did not air my fan art thankfully, but it turns out they DID air a stolen piece of artwork, that of Nami in a very fetishy XXXXXXXL body, which was originally behind a paywall! In response to this, DeMarco tweeted they would end the contest and never do anything like that again on TV. SO, while the art thief attempted to go through the contest signing with a fake name, not only did THAT of all things kill the contest instead of doxxing other users through cable television, but they apparently accepted his entry ANYWAY, meaning they didn't even care that someone wouldn't used a fake name in a written contract! Not only that, but DeMarco also said their crew was so small that they couldn't even monitor any of the pieces they received to check if they were all original BEFORE airing them!

Newgrounds and other places online are the only places you'll ever see this. I am also seriously thinking about if the crew even cares about their own block, and I really hope no horrible PR comes from this.
