Artist Army (Jazza Comp)

Share

This is my entry for the Artist Army Comp :P

Edit: WeLP I can't see the colours as vibrantly as I actually painted them on my laptop... Not sure if anyone else can see it with the same vibrancy, but we'll have to make do with this. I can see it on my phone, though.

I had a lot of fun creating this, as this is (what I think) the first “more serious” digital drawing I’ve done and I learned a lot from it. If you look at my Work in Progress pictures, I changed the ideas a lot midway through the progress of the painting, like the strokes and the sky.

So the idea I had in mind for this illustration was that a young boy looks off into the distance where he sees an army of different and unique artists changing the world with their imagination, creativity, colour, and their hearts. There was supposed to be a recruiter of sorts but it would have covered too much for my liking. The army is marching towards the village and city that hadn’t been affected by their art yet. That side of the illustration is gloomy, dull, and dark in contrast to the side with the army full of colour and bright.

In this drawing, specifically around the bottom left hand corner, there are people that stand out more than the others. I used this illustration as an opportunity to pay homage to some great folks whom I greatly admire as artists. Keep in mind that I tried to put different types of art in this illustration like music and the like.

Some people that I tried to draw (which was kind of hard because of the size I drew them):

Artists

-Vincent Van Gogh (Painter of beautifully coloured artworks like "Starry Night" and "The Cafe Terrace at Night")

-Josiah Brooks (Jazza - The great artist-youtuber who experiments with various types of art forms.)

-Leonardo da Vinci (Renaissance painter known for the "Mona Lisa" and the "Last Supper")

-MC Escher (Artist known for artworks like "Drawing Hands" - it’s kinda hard to see, honestly)

-Bob Ross (Painter who created and hosted the show "The Joy of Painting")

Authors

-Lois Lowry (author of The Giver Quartet)

Musical Artists

-Nathan Feuerstein (Also known as the rapper NF - known for his new single and album "The Search", "When I grow up", "Real", and "Let you down")

-Jeremy Renner (Singer, songwriter, actor - created songs like "Nomad" and "Main Attraction")

Extra

-Grant Thompson (The King of Random - although is isn’t really recognized as an artist, I found something beautiful about his work that inspired many. Like using the arts of science and mechanisms to create cool things and share it with the world. As many of us know, he had passed a way quite recently and I wanted to also pay homage to him.)

By the way, the sky is inspired by the style of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry night (probably because I was listening to the song “Starry, Starry Night” by Don McLean.).
