This is a "palhaço de folia dos reis" - translating, it is a "kings' revelry clown".Kinda hard to explain, but it is some kind of clown that belongs to some kind of cultural, folk and religious brazilian tradition, called "Folia dos Reis". This clown represents everything that is not divine and it's interpreted by a person that nobody knows who. I mean, no one can know (except a few people, those who help with the costume and so) who's behind that mask. The person wearing this clown costume has to dance/recite poetry/do clown stuff for the people during this event, that takes place on the streets. It's a religious event but that's not why I draw this character (and have it tattooed :p ) - my grandfather was a folia dos reis' clown and nobody knew, everyone got to know only after he passed away. When I knew I found that so cool bc he was a very very serious man. And still, was a clown and played the accordion in secret (:
