A piece I scrambled together for two friends, an attempt at making something in the theme of a magazine article of their characters talking about why they love racing~

Racing, why do we do it? Some tell you it's about science, others say it's for unity. I say it's for fun. The most fun we have with our lives. Making a career out of racing takes a few things. You have to understand what you're trying to fly, and be crazy enough to push it past the redline. These ships were made for combat racing but even then we do some pretty dumb shit with them trying to win. The Goteki craft for example has some weight to it, disadvantage? If you're boring, then yeah heavy bad, but if you're a true grav jocky heavy good! Means you can float through the corners, kicking your tail out, forcing other racers out of the way.

And why not up the ante? We'realready flying at mach speed. Why not strap a whole stack of ammo to the thing as well? Combat racing. Nothing more demanding, nothing more pure, and the dual hull craft can fit so many cannons in this bitch. Bolting for the lead while tracers are ricocheting off the track and your cockpit but all you can see is the track ahead and you only hear the beating hum of your engines. That's why we race. That pure focus where the world falls away. Where nothing matters but the track and the spooling of your turbines. That's what makes it pure.

Flying wingman isn't being secondbest. It's a role that makes sure we make it across the finsh line every race. Every time. It's a role that demands that you're able to move rapidly through race packs while eliminating critical targets, all while being shot at. If the race lead has a tail you have to get to the front. If another team has the point advantage you take down their ships. You always have to be aware of the situation. Your always under threat yourself and you just have to roll with the punches as they come. The team comes first, and that serperates good wingmen from dead weight.

I get alot of questions about how pilots should train for a wing role. The answer is live fire exercices, get used to being hammered. Not to mention the injuries you'll have to push through. Double hull cockpits will dampen some hits but sheer force alone will hurt. That leads to the question I get asked most. Why would anyone in their right mind put themself through such an ordeal? Pilots still die in the League as well. Because anything that feels so good that it stops you feeling all those broken bones has to be worth putting your life on the line. No matter the risk.
