Color of Loss Work in Progress

Share

This was for the Draw with Jazza Color of Loss competition. I used colored pencils and a little ink pen here and there on the foreground, oil pastels on the background, and the ghost didn't turn out like I wanted it to! My original plan was to print the ghost inverted in tracing paper, color her in, then adhere all three layers together for the finished work. My hope was that the tracing paper would become lighter when I put matte medium on it so that the background could subtly be visible through her and it didn't... and it just looked crafty. So, I put my Photoshop skills to work and compiled all three layers together there and adjusted her opacity. I really love how this turned out! ;) I hope the subtle differences that I added to the paper wrapped around the roses, the detail in the scarf, and my horizon-on-fire help set me apart and my use of multiple techniques give me the edge in this competition. If nothing else, this helped me overcome my "you're not good enough" internal dialogue!
