You character work and understanding of object shape and accentuation is very well pulled off. When I first saw the image that was my first thought. My second thought was "so... what's actually happening here?", which after reading your description I felt free to not try and read into it too much hehe. As a 'random' illustration this is very appealing to look at and interesting to the eye, good job. Overall I like your style and would like to see what you can do with an artwork with a more cohesive setting or visual narrative. I like your linework and use of color too.
