Context:

His friends took the photo of him in the same wooded mountains their town suspected a body was buried in 2022. The murder took place when these characters were only children. It was a horrifying case. No one could ever find the body. The only person who cared was the mother, since the murder was justified. Anthony, the person who died, did heinous things to Michael, the one who killed him. Michael was only defending himself. He knew he went too far and that he’d be punished. He hid the body with his best friend—hoping everyone would assume Anthony disappeared to another state like his father and older brothers. (To escape gang violence and responsibilities). Michael killed himself a few days later. Succumbing to years of misfortune… His best friend (mentally unwell for years) did the same later. Anthony was what broke them.

Joshua briefly sings about this in his album DECADES OF MOURNING. The album features his close friends. They also sing about the atrocities him and his friends’ communities continue to face. (They are poc, and queer). And lastly they also sing about wars, famine, and poverty.
