Ensyndia - Dallahane & Crabunkle Concept Art

Share

I was recently inspired by some fellow artists to incorporate mythology into my "bucket of inspiration", a couple results have been illustrated here.

Dallahane being a preexisting character I simply hadn't gotten to illustrating yet.

And Crabunkles being a wholly new species. And I shall include a bit of lore with both!

Dallahane is the Melodonian Goddess of Spiders and one of the three "Lifewoven Sisters" of their pantheon, a regal and calm-tempered individual she is largely found weaving silken clothes for the dead, and using her spiders to spy upon mortals and gods alike. Her dominion makes her a common patron deity for tailors and weavers, as well as for spies, rogues, and assassins. Her wrath is slow, precise, and calculated and because of this it's believed to be a bad omen by the Melodonian people to unnecessarily kill a spider intentionally. Three spiders are typically used to represent her traits, tarantulas for her strength, jumping spiders for her agility, and widows for her elegance, though her lower body has only ever made appearance as a large black tarantula.

Crabunkles are a small species of Hermit Crab found on most shores of Ensyndia, usually being able to fit in a single hand when out of its shell. It crawls along the sands in search for shiny objects washed ashore to store within it's shell, which if outgrown or full, will be abandoned, leaving behind a small treasure trove as the crab seeks a larger shell. Alternatively, if a Crabunkle finds another creature, be it another Crabunkle or something larger, it will use the objects it collects as a means of trade, usually in return for food. However, it has no concept of value or any higher intelligence, so it will trade anything from a shiny bit of scrap metal to a diamond in return for a single piece of food.

I'll definitely be doing this again, it was a lot of fun. It's nice to just draw whatever comes to mind with minimal prompting, without necessarily having to worry about my setting's pre-existing lore or all the setup of my larger renders. And it brings more content to you guys so it's a win-win.
