Hako is one of the councilors of the Council of United Stars, and is the head scientist of the alliance whose job is to study various life forms and technology. As he lived very long, he is very keen on analysis on various things, and is often called a 'mad scientist', even though he denies such claims, though he is known to be a bit eccentric at times when it comes to research. He has a handful of skarat 'assistants' to aid him in his studies, whether it is testing weapons or harmful materials, the results are all the same: more successful research for the United Stars Alliance to benefit from, and a few less living skarats in the galaxy.
