The Dark Crystal. In an era of computer generated effects and movies, the Dark Crystal Netflix series returning to the classic puppet animation of the 80s is a thing to celebrate. The Skeksis, the manipulative and greedy bird men, are perfectly designed in their goal to portray a cult of covetous overlords. They maintain control over the Crystal in hopes that they might succeed to a higher level of power, even though they are physically waning and dying out. They’re incredible villains for the film in an already incredible world. This one here I’ve drawn isn’t studied from one in particular but rather an amalgam from different elements from the other Skeksis. The idea I had for this one was a sort of military veteran, a Skeksis who has had to carry out many dark tasks in order to keep their power. He’s tired, cold, and maybe a little less flippant in his attitude towards protecting his reign.
