Ange Ushiromiya, one of my favorite characters from my favorite VN and basically favorite story in general. There are portraits in the VN that have this style so I emulated it as much as I could using my own techniques and it came out fairly well. You can just google "Umineko Portraits" and you'll see what I'm talking about if you're interested.

Here's the process for this piece.

I began with the sketch, making it as much a full drawing as possible before moving to adding a basic grayscale shading/linework. I set all of that to "multiply" and added colors underneath. Then just went to town rendering everything. A bulk of the rendering went to a single layer. Which is why Step 4 is so detailed. I love just adding a layer on top and just painting over everything. Feels like I'm painting on canvas almost. After rendering all the elements and adding more lighting I did some color correction and added a noise layer for a bit more texture. Then I slept on it overnight and looked at it with fresh eyes to see if I could improve on it anymore. There probably is a lot of things I could've done to improve it but. It felt finished enough so ye.

This one took a little less than 2 weeks. I'm still not as quick as I want to be. I'd love to be able to bust out something like this in a week at the most. With more time and experience (and focusing less on tiny details no one will notice) I'll probably get there one day I hope.

I got a comment on one of my previous pieces on discord I think about it reminding this person of Fear and Hunger. I had never played it before so I decided to try it after seeing a bit more of it online. It's very hard. In a way I don't think I like that much honestly but the world and how it works is so interesting that I kind of just put up with it just to see what lies ahead lmao. I've played about 6 hours of the game and I'm still not very good at it. Although I managed to get to the mine caves and recruit D'arce. I then returned from out of the caves only to have my legs be cut off by a yellow mage. RRRGH! That's where I stopped last night. That mage's ass is grass the next time I start playing...
