I'm still at such a loss for words here.
MF DOOM's music was a major player in forming really strong bonds with a lot of my closest friends throughout my entire adulthood. So many nights where it would be me and a bunch of my buddies just kicking back and listening to music, and DOOM was a frequent guest on our playlist. His rhymes, his lyrics, his sense of humor, his keen ear for only grabbing the best of instrumentals and collaborators, his supervillain character... so many things about him made me a fan.
Hearing about his death was shocking. Like, he was dead for 2 months, and him and everyone he personally knew kept it a secret. Not something out-of-character for him considering his Mask-wearing persona, but It's also just really telling how many people he's built bonds of loyalty and trust with, and how many people loved him. An amazing artist and mentor to so many, and I'm going to miss him greatly. I've been spending the new year going through his discography, and the chillest of vibes come flooding back.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Dumile. Your music connected me with so many wonderful people and got me through some really hard times. Thank you for showing the world how even the "illest villains" can be heroes.
