Assignment 2 of Chroma Corps. This time the prompt was "Bipedal Bulldozer". Wanted to try out Heavypaint some more, and I probably wouldn't have gotten too far trying to do an animation for this, though I DID have a cool idea for that if I changed my mind. Not very good with designing on the fly so this was the more reasonable approach. Wanted to utilize the torque of the legs for this design, but besides that I kinda just figured things out as I started painting. I was pulling from some of my major inspirations when thinking of what to actually paint and how, like the guy shooting and such. I wanted more complicated lighting, probably in black and white, but the art direction steered a different way as I was figuring the program out. Pretty flat and cartoony, but I like the lighting on the gun fire. It's something I studied before, but didn't realize it would come as easy to me as it did. Might do these paintings for the rest of the competition, as I actually like the process with Heavypaint now, and probably need the practice (it's been so long since I sat down and painted, it's crazy).
