Final Light - The “Diplo-Bots” Reference

Share

These three are, alongside VD0, Earthling robots who join Alkii and friends in their adventures in the Zingo Galaxy after helping to save Alkii’s father Flint from an illegal testing facility - the last remnant of humanity on a dilapidated Earth. They’re nicknamed the “Diplo-Bot Trio” because they were the most peaceful of the robot rebel group they originally came from.

ANINE

The no-nonsense former leader of a group of rebel robots before being overthrown, Anine was a charismatic and (mostly) diplomatic robot who later in life advocated for android rights on the Final Light ark and eventually became the ark’s first ever android Senator. Despite her strict and logical nature, deep down Anine does have the capacity for love, especially for humans - which was why she ran away from her creator David Steele, who’d sent the robot out to unknowingly bring human test subjects to his abhorrent testing facility (the same one Flint would be kept in). As for her relationship with the other diplo-bots, Anine cares deeply for them, especially as they were the last Earthling robots she’d ever be with - she is especially protective of VD0, due to his intense bullying, much to his annoyance…

RODGER the RADIO STAR

A retired radio mascot given sentience, Rodger was a self righteous human hating nut who believes he’s one of the more dominant bots in the Wired Society. Rodger bullied VD0 whenever he was vulnerable, as a way to prove his dominance as well as because of the fact VD0’s name happened to sound like “video”. Rodger was surprisingly superstitious, believing the song he got his name from - “Video Killed the Radio Star” - was gospel, and was incredibly paranoid about his supposed assassination (hence why he was so rude to VD0). However, after a few reluctant missions alongside VD0 involving sympathising with and saving some human test subjects from a repurposed Area 51, Rodger became more understanding, even managing to be nicer to his old rival. Many decades after moving to the Zingo Galaxy, Rodger would become the keyboardist for VD0’s band, covering old human songs for archival purposes and to share them with aliens. They’d even manage to cover the song Rodger used to cower from - although it took a couple dozen tries to get past the first chorus…

JONNIBOT2001

Mentally the youngest of the Diplo-Bots, Jonnibot2001 was a recycling robot who was confiscated and thrown onto the trash island home of sentient scrap-bots after an incident involving a politician’s trousers. Being one of the most innocent robots on an island of rough, dangerous and defective ones, Jonni stayed close to Anine and, sometimes, VD0, who was in a similar position to himself. However, for all those 300 years he was on the island (before moving to the Zingo Galaxy), Jonnibot had stored audiobooks of Sherlock Holmes into his hard drive, leading to him taking up an old novelty detective hat and a much more observant personality. Though initially these attempts to seem like the famous detective were annoying, they’d eventually become really useful, as Jonni matured and began to actually .. detect, instead of pretending to detect. In the lead up to the Final Light’s jump into a new universe, Jonnibot2001 formed a proper android detective agency.
