On November 3, 1957, the Soviet Union launched the second spacecraft around the Earth... said spacecraft was named Sputnik 2.

From living on the cold streets of Moscow to traveling into outer space, Laika, the adorable two-year-old stray dog went down in history as the first living creature in orbit and became world famous as 'the Soviet space dog'. Little this fluffy space traveler knew was that this fame and recognition of humanity would come at a very high cost, since said voyage only had a one-way ticket... and about seven hours after the launch of the cone capsule, telemetry of the electrodes that monitored Laika's vital signs stopped showing data of her. On November 6 at 5 a.m Moscow Time, no more signs of life were received from this little cosmonaut.

5 months passed after the launch of the Sputnik 2 into space, and finally on April 14, 1958, said spaceship, including Laika's remains aboard, burned up in the atmosphere during re-entry to Earth and completely disintegrated, only remaining the records of the voyage in the Soviet Space Program offices. Records that, as a legacy of Laika, helped the following space flights in which the dogs sent to orbit (as Belka and Strelka) had the possibility of returning home alive.
