[On the book]: Minutes
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Comrade Ivanka, a member of our political party bureau was told that every time you left home for work, you, a member of the Communist Party, would make a sign of the cross. Are you a believer? Maybe you go to church too?*
-Comrade Party Organizer, these are all insinuations and lies! Look here and I'll show you! Before going to work, I make sure I always wear my hat properly, then make sure my skirt is not too short, then look for the party member's card next to the heart, and then see if my spouse put lunch money in the inner pocket of my jacket ...
*The Soviet Union was the first national state in the world to promote atheism and outlaw any type of religious institution and practice, especially the clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church. Ideologically speaking, religion was the "opium of the people" according to Karl Marx and several pious figures and believers were either exiled, tortured or executed. However, in spite of the state's campaigning efforts, religion has failed to be completely eradicated, and nearly 80% of the Russian population are still practicing religion today (with almost half of them being Russian Orthodoxy).
