Probably should have done this a year ago. Drew a portrait actually but due to being out of practice and not comfortable with it, I only uploaded it on Discord. My art style has been changing significantly but one thing I’m gonna focus on is staying in midtone territory. I used to have significant contrast in my art but it seems staying in the middle and keeping the contrast low creates a visual appeal I think works. If the highlights are too bright it can create a feeling of uncanny valley. Lighting is very hard to utilize. So much so I have primarily been utilizing less of it. Funny enough, I’ve been doing this for what has more or less been a year now but it’s only dawned on me now I’ve been doing this.
Problem now is dealing with the lineart which is always a pain. I always use Norasuko’s line brushes but for this project I purchased the Apple Pen and used Clip Studio mobile. I only got one of Norasuko’s airbrushes in, meaning I had to use default brushes for everything else. The detail pencil was a replacement for Norasuko’s textured pencils, which actually worked better than I expected. I kept the lineart dark grey to black simply out of laziness but it’s better this way anyway. I tend to use a lighter value but when detailing it usually conflicts with a lot anyway. I try not to spend too long on portraits so I tend to give myself two days at most to finish so with this projects, I probably won’t improve on it until a 2021 Bowsette redraw.
