Dragon's Hide Shield

After testing the waters with my previous weapon I thought I'd show my next one. Some liked it, some didn't and some felt the need to parody it. So needless to say I got the reactions necessary to tell me I have at least something going with this theme.

This one took a lot more planning than the last one. At first I wanted to just make a modern shield. Something that could stop blades and projectiles, but also be light enough to carry around. However I couldn't really think of a way to do so on the first run, so I figured I'd save that for when I thought of a way to do it. One thing I came to notice that, while many mediums pertaining to fantasy can tell you a hell of a lot about how cool certain swords are. Like the Master Sword, Key Blades and Metaknight's Sword, I find that the shield in almost every medium has not been given the same respect. There are literally a few shields out in mainstream mediums that have had prominence such as Captain America's Vibranium Shield, Link's Mirror Shield, to name a few, but even the most tech and fantasy stuff seems to treat the shield as nothing more than a blunt instrument designed to block things. So I got to thinking "What is probably considered the best kind of shield that can defend yourself from these weapons?" That's when it struck me. Almost anyone could make a shield that defends, but it takes a special kind of touch to make sure the weapon used on it never hurts you or anyone ever again.

I based this off of two quotes by Chozen Toguchi. If you haven't seen Cobra Kai yet, spoilers. Chozen mentioned to Daniel Larusso, the two most important things about self defence. The first is that "Defence comes in many forms." and the second, my personal favourite. "If an enemy insists on war, then you take away their ability to wage it."

Putting that into place, I got to thinking this. "Any shield can block a sword even when it gets worn and torn. A good shield would be able to destroy the swords."

The shield shape itself is Generic, but I figure one must start somewhere. It's overall shell, stainless steel laminated with Kevlar. With steel blades on the top. Both for parrying swords and chopping heads. While the spike on the bottom is for when you and a bunch of other warriors want to hold your ground against an oncoming threat. My most personal favourite is right in dead center. An electric grinder. Said grinder is rigged to a motor, which in turn is wired to one of the shield straps. Where the first strap is traditional leather, the second strap, is really a brown painted plastic housing featuring two buttons. One for safety and the other for the main motor. All of it connected to a battery below. If done right, any striking sword will be pressed against the grinder which on top of making a wonderful display of sparks, would grind and dull that blade to nothing. Then all it takes is a simple shield strike to knock that bastard down.

This is awesome. So. when the combination of the buttons and motor are right, the shield harnesses fire and electricity?

CIEIRMusic responds:

No. It's a literal grinder. It grinds whatever bladed weapon that strikes it to the nub. However, if you have some flammable liquid near you, you could use the sparks from said grinder to start a fire.

Interesting... So it can go hand-to-hand with that sword, right?

CIEIRMusic responds:

Ya. I wouldn't put my own sword on a pedestal. Plus a grinder against a gas tank is a pretty bad combination.
