Another Place (B-MYOASIS)

Share

My intentions:
I wanted my art to be about going from world to world and look at, the landscape, the culture, everything. I wanted people to say 'The creator really likes to explore and has a crazy imagination' or something like that when they look at my work.
My Oasis is about getting inspired and traveling. Rather than fighting robots and flying, I wanted to enjoy the scenery.

(You don't need to read past this! This is just me reflecting on myself!)
My thought process: At first I wanted to make a cave and a portal that showed another world, but I saw an artwork that inspired me to make many floating islands. Then I saw another one, with a beautiful sakura tree, so I wanted to add that too.

I watched some youtube videos of water coloring tips and such, but they used water paper and I couldn't find him, so I had to make due to the canvas.

After sketching it, I worked on the leaves of the tree, and I think it turned out pretty good since I have never done water coloring on a canvas before. The tree trunk was supposed to be white since I didn't have many brown colors, but I forgot... and I was supposed to have some white spots on the tree, but I forgot again...

Anyways, I made the flowers which were good, but I thought it was too pink so I tried to add blue, but it was terrible so I replaced it with pink again, but it doesn't really look like a field of flowers now.
After that, I did the portal, which was supposed to be brown, but I only had 1 color of brown and an orange-brown, so I just did black. I added purple and pink blended together, and realized it looked like outer space! I watched the video again, and it said to have a character (didn't directly say that, just got it from context clues...) so I drew one on some paper and cut it out.
I finished the grass on all the islands and added two more because it looked kinds empty (still looks kinds empty).
I made a light blue sky and tried to add texture, but it looked like it was raining, and it wasn't supposed to be sad.

My thoughts:
I really like it since it's my first time doing a 'large scale' water coloring artwork, I usually use colored pencils (but I'm very bad at them) and markers. Hopefully, I can improve even more!

I learned:
You should plan out everything first before coloring.
You shouldn't sketch on the canvas (still see graphite).
Work on textures (The 'rain' still bothers me).
Please plan out everything first.
Use a lot of paper...

The idea is amazing and really appealing!
While the painting is amazing, you really need to add just a little bit of more detail and draw a little attention over to your character. Otherwise, fabulous job! You have a great chance of winning!
