A little tribute to Dune 2000. 🏜️🪱🚗
One of my earliest real time strategy games, along with Total Annihilation and Age of Empires. I think AoE was first, but its a bit hazy. I did have full versions of each, and a strategy guide for AoE- I think my dad was into the genre. Dune 2000 was one of the games we used to play over LAN together, he used to imitate the Harkonnen announcer. I was never very good at strategy games as a kid but they always fascinated me.
It's funny to think we might not have RTS without an otherwise unrelated series of heady, philosophical sci-fi novels. Then again, Herzog Zwei was a thing. Having recently rewatched the '84 David Lynch movie though, I can actually see where Westwood might have gotten inspired to make that type of game.
