Roza's Ride

Share

I made a commitment that I would draw this girl more, so here she is sitting on the hood of her new wheels. Originally I wanted to put her in her default beige, but as I was putting in the flat colors, I decided to put her in something a little more vibrant. I thought about giving her different shoes, but I decided to keep them the same. Her boots require a lot of detailed work so I figured I should stay in the motion of drawing them as often as I can, and maybe they'll become a sort of emblem for her if I draw them every time I draw her.

Car, girl, gun, a potent and classic combination of elements when put together make something that would appeal to most. The addition of a grainy texture (which I am noticing is something you commonly add in your work these days) gives a vintage and aged look to the design, which enhances the effect of the piece.

Drawing what you have here requires a pretty high level of mechanical and organic design. For Roza herself, I think you have knocked the ball out of the park, this is one of the most appealing OC's designs I've ever seen but more than that there is a considerable attention to detail regarding the fitting and design of her outfit. The only weakness that sticks out to me is how her hand is holding on to the gun.

Now as for that revolving rifle.... it couldve definitely benefited from the use of a reference. Specifically the rifle seems to be one big wooden forestock, when I assume its based off of a colt revolving rifle (nice choice) and should have a distinct metal barrel. As it is it looks like a toy pop gun.

As for the vehicle I feel like you wouldve benefited from having references of this car from multiple angles to better understand the forms involved because getting the perspective of this car correct is made into a herculean task from the forms of this car being organic coupled with the polished sheen of the paint job and glass. Parsing out what is going on exactly in the front as well as making it and the rest of the body in the proper persective while scaling it all to be in the correct propotions is ....well... even in the photograph it looks strange. The far headlight looks like its jutting out in front of the car, and that is exaggerated in your copy of it.

For your ambition alone I think you deserve 5 stars, but theres always room for improvement.

Thank you for taking the time to write such an in-depth review :0 The grainy texture I have here in this picture and the few preceding ones, is one of my latest artistic experiments. I have been doing digital work for just a little over a year now and have been trying many things. The grainy texture I've been applying to my past few works is actually an attempt to try and compensate for the photomanipulation technique you saw in my retrospective, since part of the process involves putting the photo in monochrome (this makes it easier to edit), which makes everything kind of jagged and pixelated. I figured giving my characters grainy rendering would allow them to blend into the environment a bit better.

You are right about the hand on her gun looking a little off. Looking at it now, her fingers should be a bit more curled over the barrel to give the impression of a firmer grip. The gun itself looks as though it is floating a bit. Speaking of the gun, it's actually a carbine called the Pieper. You mentioned the odd forestock, which was one of the reasons I chose the gun, given that it was such an odd/unique design. I will edit this post to include a picture of it and do so with other works in the future to avoid this kind of confusion. I plan on giving Roza a gun in every picture I draw her in. Guns are one of the many things I want to get better at.

And as I said earlier, I've been experimenting a lot and this picture was my first attempt at using photomanipulation on a car. Up until now, it's just been plants and buildings, but despite that
it must be said it still did turn out pretty poor. I'm going to try a more stylized approach in the future.
