The Raksura: Moon the Solitary Consort

Share

Part 1 of my Raksura design series.

Moon is the main character in Martha Wells' Raksura series. Orphaned at a young age, he knew nothing of what he was or anything about his people. For years he would try to learn everything on his own: how to hunt, avoid predators, fly and keep his identity a secret. Unable to find any other creature like him, he spent his days wandering from groundling settlement to settlement (there are no actual humans in this world, so humanoid, bipedal creatures that live on land are called groundlings as a general term). Usually, some event would happen that would lead to his other form being revealed. Since his winged form looks like another creature that is feared across the land, a Fell ruler, he was forced to leave these settlements and attempt to live in another.
His luck changes one day when another creature claiming to be of the same species offers to take him to his own court. though not very trusting of him, Moon now has a chance to see just what his people are like - and just how different from them he might be.

Moon is best described as cautious. He's had to hide his identity his whole life just to stay alive. His defenses are set on high almost every time he comes in contact with something new. But he's also very hardworking and doesn't like to sit on the sidelines. Though he is a consort (a fertile warrior who is able to mate with queens), he never lived the cushy lifestyle of one. His only resemblance to one is his more quiet, almost shy disposition. He's also been described as a little high strung by another Raksura. He's pretty resourceful and witty, but doesn't always feel so due to his ignorance of just about everything Raksura. However, should anyone manage to make a connection with him, he's a great friend and very loyal.

The Raksura belong to Martha Wells.
