A virus that affects the nerves and the brain. It is a rare but serious disease that can be contracted usually via bites or scratches from animals. The biggest carriers of rabies are bats and raccoons, the latter of which has had heavy population control measures put in place against them, but dogs, cats, and foxes are also up there.

Symptoms include: high temperatures, headache, anxiety, confusion or aggressive behaviour, hallucinations, producing a lot of saliva or frothing at the mouth, muscle spasms, or even paralysis.

Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal so if you do get bitten, scratched, have an open wound licked by an animal you should disinfect that area and get treatment ASAP.
