Wow... uh, I’m a bit surprised that I managed this piece within today. I worked on this from 8am til about 5pm, and it... doesn’t feel rushed. Go me!

Anyways, the character that’s with Cynder. Her name’s Jade. And, like Rex with Spyro, Jade’s Cynder’s rider. I’m a sucker for dragonriders, if you can’t tell.

One of the things I really felt would be interesting was to give a character shorter hair in one incarnation, then give them longer hair in another. Jade was the character I picked for this purpose. Another thing to note about her -- she’s been raised by the Sky Pirates as a fighter, which is why she has the outfit that she does here. It’s also why I picked Fellmuth Arena in general. There might be an arc with her learning to accept Cynder, because I *love* the idea of both the rider and the dragon learnint to accept one anotehr as their ‘chosen partner’.

To be honest, I love Cynder’s concept: a female right-hand dragoness of the villain that used to be part of the same hatching circle as your player character... However, I feel the ‘bad villain turned good’ idea had already been done in Spyro -- I’m you guys remember Bianca from Year of the Dragon, right? She’s Cynder done right. It certainly doesn’t help that Sparx in The Eternal Night keeps on talking like as if she’s going to stab Spyro in the back, and Cynder doesn’t outright deny it. Cynder’s character is the living embodiment of ‘There’s a lot to unpack here, but let’s just throw away the suitcase’. The fact that -- spoilers to those not in the know -- Cynder ends up being returned to Gaul like a badly labeled package does not help her character in the slightest.

Beyond what I stated about Cynder... There’s not a whole lot we get about her. All that we get is that... she’s remorseful for doing nothing but draining the Guardians like batteries... and that she believes in destiny... that’s about it to her character. She’s nothing more than a plot device for both A New Beginning and The Eternal Night, and I think that’s what aggravates me about Cynder -- there could be more... but Dawn of the Dragon made Cynder’s only trait be ‘Oh, woe is me’ and never once actually tries to give her anything more beyond that.

It’s kind of sad about her character, to be honest.
