From 2019
For the past few weeks i've been researching into designing a character based on the creature from Nubian culture. The Blemmyes are headless creatures with their faces located around the chest and stomach.
Designing the creature was a challenge, namely trying to make the eyes work with a muscular torso without looking too silly or goofy. Some of the upper teeth were slightly bent inwards, with a sense that if he had a ribcage, thats how i imagine the teeth would be shaped. This also gave me the idea to give him inhuman features such as two fingers and two flexible thumbs on each hand, and four toes
i based the clothes and symbols from ancient paintings of the region, along with influences from modern day Egyptian clothing
The name Bitamziq (تمزيق) can mean multiple words in arabic, including tearing, ripping, shredding, laceration etc, which is very fitting given that he has sharp claws and teeth. I originally named him Matraqa (مطرقة) as i thought it meant Maul (as in, an animal mauling something to death). But i didn't realize Matraqa actually meant multiple types of hammer, so i had to change the name to something that would fit the character better
