Powered Kaiju - RED QUEEN

Share

(2017)

What's interesting about Red Queen is that her design is heavily based on the original Red King from 1966. I assume it was meant to make way for the reveal of the male's more grizzly appearance. I did go into the series blind with no prior knowledge, so the reveal of her hubby was a bit of a surprise to me.

I had wanted to follow this up with the Psycho Baltan, the other two versions of Dada, and Ultraman Powered himself. However, I had made stickers of the Powered Kaiju art, and...they didn't take off like I had hoped they would. Maybe at some point I'll draw those remainders for completion's sake.

Now here's a fun li'l anecdote. And by fun, I mean kinda horrible - this was the last piece I made before the computer I was using decided to completely crap out.

Not too long after, GIMP had started getting really buggy and crashing randomly, as I had mentioned here. I was even messing around in it (nothing important, just doodling), and the file kept getting corrupted. If old Sierra "Quest" games have taught me anything, "now might be a good time to save". I backed up my artwork immediately, and all was good. Not even an hour later, the computer crashed...HARD.

On top of saving my artwork, the other silver lining was I had planned on getting a better computer anyway. And maybe it was a good thing I was taking up traditional media, too. Before I got my current desktop PC, I started using a cheap laptop to tide me over with anything I needed done digitally, but it was because of this crash that I heavily favor traditional media.
