NightMARE Fuel: Ponyta + Tentacruel

Share

Mid-Progress Speed Paint: https://youtu.be/bCa6VZASHVc

I used the Pokemon Fusion site for inspiration - originally it was supposed to have Tentacruel's body and Ponyta's coloring/flames, but instead it somehow got to this ... whatever this is ^^;; The idea was that in order to combine two opposing type, incompatible pokemon, one is like an invasive species/parasite; so Tentacruel is sort of parasitically taking over ponyta; it's supposed to look like something out of a horror movie/game or something xD I actually super depressed myself while I was making the original sketch because I had to find a lot of references of emaciated horses, and it was really sad to look at :(

In the background the land is supposed to be Cinnabar Island, where they were doing their creepy experiments on Mew and stuff in red/yellow/blue; I figure why stop at one Abomination when you can potentially make infinite others? In this image the subject is escaping, after having lit the facility on fire, so the burning building in the background is the pokemon mansion, and the pokemon is fleeing to the seafoam islands.

So yeah; the flames on it's body are tamped down quite a bit from how Ponyta normally looks because I figure they might be a bit weaker; you're sort of trading strength for the fact that, being both water and fire type, it has no elemental weakness, I guess? It made sense in my head. It also looks emaciated and sickly because I mean, having a parasite tends to make one unhealthy ^^;; Also the tentacles that are growing out of it in the sides and neck are all vein-y to look like they were forced underneath ponyta's skin ... It still has both sets of eyes, in the correct colors (ponyta's eyes are black, tentacruel's are white) and I tried to make the red parts on the top of the head look a little like a skull, for an added "creep factor". Also flaming tentacles (which was originally why I decided to draw this - because "if you combine ponyta and tentacruel, it could have flaming tentacles. That would be AWESOME!" <-- my literal thoughts xD)

The background was awful xD I've never done light reflecting on water before, or even just a large body of water in general really, so this was a first, lol - I hope it reads well because hilariously, of the 30hrs I spent on this, I probably spent close to 15 fiddling with the background alone, and I know the design concept/preliminary sketch took me 10hrs, so ... Yeah; definitely spent a lot of time fussing over that background, adding layers, trying to take layers away, adding detail with colored pencils/white gel pen ... It was a whole many-hours long fiasco.

Credit goes to my friend for the title "NightMARE Fuel" - she's very punny.

Now that is beautiful

Such a beautiful piece of artwork here just the detail alone is very awsome the color comes in very good too so that's a nice job there and I must say that the abstract feel is just so beautiful I don't normally give out fives but today this has earned that and we'll deserved I think you could ad some borders on to this but anyways nice work here

~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
Some nifty colorful borders or frames would be a nice touch here

~X~

An abstract and beautiful Pokemon piece! I really like the contrast between the fire and water too, light and dark, red, and blue... and the mane billowing in the... well, not in the wind, but just billowing. Background looks as great as the character, very detailed and polished. Looks great!
