Reviews for "Biome Conquest"

its pretty good though a bit hard.

It took a while to click for me, but in the end I really liked this. Here are my tips:
1) Taking over hexes is usually irrelevant because they get stolen back.
2) You want to focus on secure spaces. For example, steal hexes when they will no longer have any blank edges.
3) 10 hexes can't be taken over. Place them carefully.
4) Strengthening weak hexes is mostly irrelevant. Low draws should be used to bump 9s up to 10s or to block off your high value hexes from empty space.
5) When playing against 2-3 opponents, defense becomes more important. Don't steal often, mostly just secure your borders.

With this strategy, I was able to generally win and I got most medals. There's still some RNG in when you get which draws (getting a choice of several tiles might be more strategic). I didn't really notice any difference between Easy/Medium/Hard AI.

fyi Medium 2 and Hard 2 have inaccurate descriptions. I also think that Medium 3 and Hard 3 may be impossible. I got the score for each but the medals didn't pop when all the others did.

Just my three cents. Thanks for the game.

Thanks for the review and strategy guide! :D

I've fixed the medal descriptions you mentioned. Unfortunately the Newgrounds API seems a bit unstable sometimes so I think that's why the medals didn't register for you, I can see other users did unlock them so they do work.

pretty good, but also annoying. The game will fuck you over so hard any chance it gets. During one game i was winning at the end and the opponent got 3 10s in a row. It really just seems unfair and luck based most of the time.

rvh86 responds:

Every player gets the same tile values, just in a different order. Playing against more than 1 computer controlled opponents can be really discouraging though.

Nice strategy game. Some of it depends on fortune, but I wasn't able to get close to the medals without a strategy, so it's not all luck. The level of difficulty didn't change the average score as the achievements suggest, though, so the easy level medals are actually harder to get.

rvh86 responds:

You're right, the difference between difficulties is larger later on in the game, but by then the damage is already done. But I'm going to update it to make easy mode a bit easier.

Interesting concept but very little skill impact, like 75% rng 25% skill and forethought.

I see the game dev claims "Every player gets the same tile values" but I get far more low value (1-3) tiles and the AI got far more high value (6-10). In the last stretch I was up by 30 points but the last 8 tiles I got were all less than 3. Perhaps provide the player with more tiles to choose from, so if you burn through all your high numbers early on you only have low value tiles by the end.
