Reviews for "Hymn of the Fallen"

Well..

This song makes me remember the time I realized one of lifes big lessons and that's when I realized I didn't know what love was...Still don't but maybe someday I will

Great job smartgurl ^_^

SuperTonic64 responds:

Love...is a very complicated, yet wonderful essence. This song, however, is more about the pain of many lost souls, grieving, and maybe one day finding peace in their despair.

Thanks for the review! ^_^

Superb

As I was listening to It, I got sidetracked and started to stare at my monitor. It's very hypnotizing and relaxing. This track would sound excellent if one were reading an into to some sort of fantasy novel.

Very nice, keep up the good work.

SuperTonic64 responds:

lol! :D I've done that too...when I was really reaaally tired. :D

Anywho, thanks for the review! ^_^ I'm glad you enjoyed the piece! :)

It is more than its title.

The song would probably have the same review from me that the others before me did, but the title in particular does something to raise it above that. The "repetitiveness" is actually precisely what an elegy should have, for one of the purposes of an elegy is for remembrance of something that is no longer dynamic and will fade, like precious memories, with age. Surprisingly, I found this to be a little upbeat for a song of the lost.

Whether you judge this an inferior work or not, it brings the wistfulness and pensiveness that such a dirge should bring, and does so with richness and depth that is hard to find on a NG clip. They're out there, but I'm right here.

And you told me you couldn't make longer works. Wallow in your kudos. Oh, and make more. I'll be playing this song for a few friends that can relate to this, and I fully expect to see a few tears.

SuperTonic64 responds:

:)

As you have suggested, I wanted the song to repeat to give the effect of a chorale, like the ones in a church. This song is open to interpretation at some points. Maybe the upbeatness signifies something much more, as though there is hope for those lost.

Thank you so much for your review! ^_^ Don't worry, my 30th song is sure to be at least 3 to 5 minutes long. :0

Repetitive, but emotionally driven

I like this song a lot, because in some small way, I can liken it unto how I've felt many times before. The sorrow and emotion that comes with it is touchhing.

It isn't your best work IMO, but I like it nonetheless. The harp kind of threw me off, as I expected it to go in a different direction, but it worked out in the end. I wasn't a huge fan of the choir in the beginning for some reason...It just didn't feel right to me.

My favorite part was probably when the brass came in. I do think that the harp and choir gets a bit repetitive over a while though. The melodic instruments do change around every so often, and you employed some light percussive elements, but as a whole, I would have liked more harmonic variety. A change up in the chord progression or something like that would have been nice, as it did kind of drag on.

Good job on it as a whole, though. There was a nice amount of reverb (Maybe slightly too much in the higher intruments and brass, it sounded sort of mucky) and the mastering wasn't bad. My older brother walked in the room and started listening with me when he heard it from a different room, even. He really enjoyed it.

8/10

Thanks for the review BlazingDragon! ^_^

Yes, I know for a fact that this is not my best work. :D In fact, this is the first song I have ever written that I only used FLstudio with. (I usually use a notation program, so then I can see what I am writing on a staff.)

Anywho, I HAD to start writing again. I was feeling really depressed...since I hadn't wrote anything in months! (Since my song, Escape.) However, my 30th song on Newgrounds is coming soon...and I have something very special written for that occasion. :)

Yeah...it is kinda repetitive...^_^" But my next song will not be repetitive like that other one. :D

Thanks for the review! ^_^

It finally happened :(

It acually happened for the first time, a song of yours that I didn't like :P (not to sound like a suck-up)..
I don't know why, it just kinda had nothing to it, it was wonderfully composed and planned out, it just wasn't really.... exiting / touching (in my opinion those are the only to things that matter to me in music... next to it not being screamo)
Well, never the less, good job on the song... I know that sounds kind of weird though.
P.S. Did you get my P.M. on the new suggestion? No preasure if you did, I just wanted to know if I put in the right name :)

SuperTonic64 responds:

:D

Well, seeing as though this is one of the first songs I have written since January, and the fact that I wrote it completely in FLstudio instead of Finale (then FL :P), I do make musical blunders every now and then. ;)

Personally, this songs means a great deal to me. I've been through a lot of pain in the past...18 years of my life (especially the past 4 months), and I wrote it to bring myself out of a musical stalemate. :P

But hey, I respect your opinion, but all I ask is that you rate fairly based on the actual sound of the music. ;)

Anywho, yes, I did get your PM, and I'm looking into it. :) (I'm working on a few themes from Twilight Princess first. :D)
