Reviews for "Jidan Havoc"

EDIT: This is my review now. Original is at the bottom for context.

Great game. Animations are great, and it runs well on my cheap laptop. Thanks for actually doing something about the lag, instead of ignoring. Now it's super fun.

It's a good game, but god the acceleration is slow. In fact, the whole game is. Everything feels super sluggish, and at times, I'll just restart rather than fall all the way back down. The animation and such is nice, but everything else is excruciatingly slow.

PeltastDesign responds:

Hmm, well if *everything* is slow, that's probably lag. I'll have to look into what I can do to help performance as I'm sure the game can be much more optimized. Thanks for the review!
edit: performance should be better now, hopefully!

pretty good man.

Beautiful game, a lot of polish, great music and level design. It felt really floaty from the slow acceleration but it seemed worthwhile to keep going. that is until enemies were added, then it all felt really fumbly and annoying.

I'd rather you remove the bonus for killing all the enemies, it ruins the flow of the level. maybe it's because dealing with the attack is cumbersome, but I don't think thats the main reason

This is perfect example of what a solid platformer gameshould be like. Not only were the controls precise and well mapped, but the variety in which you can move the little guy and stream together moves/attacks makes this a very creative and unique play through. Perfect balance of a casual hop n bop mixed with skillful precision.

I'm also a HUGE fan of polish which there is no lack of here. All the details from the texture in the back-round to the character's "oh noo!" face when his drill attack is complete just before falling shows that you really gave this project some proper tender love and care.

I just noticed that I've played your "Why am I Dead" series before but not yet your "About Face" game so once I'm done with this you can bet I'll be trying that one out next!

Thanks for making this one and keep em comin :D

PeltastDesign responds:

thank you! I had a lot of fun adding some visual flourishes in this one, especially the player animations.

about-face doesn't have the same kind of polish and its physics are wonky but I hope you enjoy it!

Shows lots of potential if you want to keep pushing forward with this kind of gameplay. Movement feels way too slow, which discourages me from landing quick combos which I assume is the way the game is intended to be played. I found the punishment for attacking and not hitting an enemy to be annoying. I get why it's there, but the game makes me wait too long if I'm just a little bit short of hitting an enemy. With those things on top of the slow level pacing, I honestly didn't get far before getting bored.. Still though, this is cool!

PeltastDesign responds:

thanks! the physics and missing hits are admittedly punishing and a bit unconventional, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on them if I do more with this.
