Reviews for "Prom GOblin"

I think this game needs alot of polish
when you turn someone over, there should a visual Que or something so you know you have their vote, not to mention any sort of visual clue on who they are voting for would be nice

other thing include a gameover screen and an animation or something when you get caught instead of a black screen

its looks great, but it needs more to be fun

How about a sequel where you raise popularity by giving people blowjobs?

Now seriously speaking - the good aspects of this game where the graphics - the people looked interesting. Although I think that the Onion girl looked better. My vote goes to her!

Now as for the bad things - gaming mechanics are too simple and probably ended up not being what the authors expected when starting to make this. Checking what other person votes for is useless - better just kiss - everyone. Now seriously I think it would leave a very different impression. It just looked cheap even in game. Better make a more detailed game using a more nuanced approach use small talk on some people, compliment some others, blow a kiss to others, hug others - depending on their personality and opinions which you could check.

The crowd is too dense and not walkable. Curiously enough in this month we have another NG submission with somewhat similar crowd surfing mechanics - Bouncefloor. This game could learn from that game how to make properly walkable-trough crowds.

And the last major issue with this game is the bug that makes you unable to move if you check anyone's vote. Only thing to do is to click outside game window and then back again. Luckily checking vote is not necessary to win, but without it the game also becomes too simplistic to be any fun or challenge.

It seems this game was rushed and released prematurely for the Ludum Dare contest. I think this game has potential to be better if mechanics would be properly implemented and the at big bug would be averted. Maybe it is not worth it to release unfinished crappy games that are not going to win the contest anyway? Spend a few days more to make a game that players can actually enjoy, forget about the contest - and you may actually make something that you are proud and praised for afterwards.

I appreciate all of your feedback except the last paragraph.

Ludum Dare isn't really a contest, since there aren't any prizes other than fame and glory (which can be achieved without LD). The point of Ludum Dare is to just make a game and release it to the public, whether or not it's good or bad. The entire point was to make a game that we need to rush and release prematurely, or else we could develop bad habits of scope issues and leave every single useless mechanic in, like we originally wanted to have a little table with the drinks and whatnot on it that you could push around, but at the time there was better uses of the time.

Does it have more potential? Sure maybe. But that's the point of Ludum Dare, to experiment and find game mechanics that seem interesting and may have potential. If your game is garbage, well it at least was a learning experience. The mere fact that we got feedback saying there's potential means we did alright.

You don't explain to the player that you need to blow two kisses to people to get them to vote for you when they want to vote for garlic kid. Checking to see who voted for you is pretty much a waste of time. If you find out they didn't vote for anyone then you blow another kiss. If they voted for garlic kid, you blow two kisses to them, which means you blew two kisses and one to check them. Why not just blow two kisses each time. It's possible that they are already going to vote for you, but I think it averages out, especially if garlic kid has more votes than you do. Why not just show the player who is voting for who? It'd even be more effective if the right mouse button caused a circle to go out and tell you who all the nearby people are voting for.

The game just seems annoyingly repetitive. It is hard to blow kisses to some people since they are so close together they are blocking each other (you also don't know if you hit your target sometimes). Plus, if you are too close to a person, all of your shots hit that person. No matter how many people I try to turn over to my side, garlic kid always seems to catch up and get ahead.

Still, I wish you and your team luck on your next project.

I couldn't really understand this game at all. I mean, it was just you going around kissing random people. It made little sense to me. I guess the graphics were at least nice. It was kind of unique. I always thank people for easy medals!

Then again, I didn't notice it at first. She was a goblin all right. I don't know the exact definition of those guys. Are they always green? I guess it was okay for an easy medal.

I'm not sure if it was built this way but at times I couldn't just move, and I needed to click outside the game zone in order to "reinitialize" the control keys. I could only kiss / whisper while not being able to move. Freezes at times when restarting too (when you get caught).

Beside this, the graphics are very nice and it feels kind of refreshing little game. Well done for that.
