Reviews for "Infinity - To The Top"

Major bug: Every few minutes it freezes for about 2 seconds, which is always enough to at least lose one level of power, if not straight up die. Other than that, pretty good, if generic, shooter game.

It's when the ads of newgrounds refresh, not cool =(

WTF does "party" mean in a single player game.

13rice responds:

EDIT: now corrected =)

Thanks, sorry bad translation, it's "game" in this case, from a start to a death. Will be corrected.

It's a pretty standard bullet hell shooter, but it's not bad. A few times the backgrounds, in conjunction with the starwipes, congested the screen and made it harder to see incoming fire. I think if you want people to play this at a high level, it should prioritize precise positioning and reflexes, and not cheap visual confusion.

I experiences a bug while I was typing in my name for the high score. The "PAUSE" banner came up, despite not having clicked away from the screen. I couldn't make it go away, but the buttons underneath it were still functional.

Small thing, I think it would benefit from having feedback when you mouse over / click buttons.

beyond the stated issues one thing i wonder is why the second boss ship has such a long time on its firing lazer- i cant dodge it if i can only fly left and right- had it go off on the left side of the screen but it walsed well long enough to get me on the other, so i couldnt dodge it.
not to gripe on simpler things but that seems like an issue if your ship can only take one hit and that hit is about undodgeable ( not sure how lamia got farther either he killed the ship faster or figured out how to get away easier than i did, was kiiinda focusing on surviving the blast not shooting )

13rice responds:

Your ship is faster than the laser turret ! You can go far left, then on the top. There's nothing undodgeable ;), even with more difficult bosses.

Some design issues. One major bug (Or oversight?). The big one first: I just played to 42,225 points, at which point enemy waves stopped coming. Game does not end, I'm just flying through empty space. Am not sure yet if this consistently happens or was a bug, but in either case that needs to get fixed.

Some smaller points on your design: Giving the enemy missiles the same sprite as the player's was a bad decision. Makes it very difficult to identify threats. The smoke trails on friendly missiles also clutter the screen a lot and detract from situational awareness. Inconsistent telegraphing on enemy projectiles means some will blindside the player a lot - in some cases you have large, bright, flashing balls and in others use much less visible art that fades into the background with all the flashing lights onscreen. Consider touching those up to be more visible. It's unclear what several upgrade levels actually do - the second gun powerup, second mine, third shield, for example. More of a visual signature to confirm that the upgrade had an effect would be nice.

On the structure of your achievements, I personally really dislike objectives that prohibit use of a game's content, like the "survive X seconds/kill X enemies with no upgrades" ones. Those features were ostensibly put in the game for a reason, if you're going to punish players for using them you might as well not have.

13rice responds:

GG for 42.225 !
Thanks to send me this bug, you are the first to notice it, there's no end actually. After 40-50K it's so difficult you can't survive forever.

Did you see the big purple cruiser boss (it takes all the screen, you can't miss it) ?
I can had your score to apologize for the bug, what name do you want ?
