Reviews for "Asau"

Personally love the tempo changes, the sweet melodies and the contrast between the hard hitting main beats and calm, subtle beautiful pieces in between. Personally I think you show way more skill than you know about in this.

So clear, the balance between your Low, Mid and High freq's are great. I often struggle to get such a pristine EQ sound, but you've nailed it.

I do appreciate how different the melody is, what I mean by that is - you don't tend to repeat yourself, it's new pretty much all the way through.

Great job, great sound. Love it.

Onefin responds:

Hey, Enzer0! Thanks for dropping by and leaving a review! I appreciate it :)

Did I leave a review on your track telling you just how awesome it was? I don't think I did, and I apologize - your submission really deserved that praise. I'll have to fix that in a bit, but for now, just know that I think we're both the same in that we tend to underestimate our own works. Your track is really, really cool as well, perhaps even better!

But hey, I'm glad you love the track! For the EQ, I legit don't know how I get it balanced, as I don't really do any balancing at all - I know a few basic tricks, like raising a frequency and decreasing a frequency in one layer of a sound and doing the opposite on the other layer, or increasing the low end of kicks and basses and the high end of arps and hats, but that's really it. No real mixing attempt, no mastering. Well, I guess I did try to master, but it didn't go so well. ...Maybe I'm underestimating the helpfulness of what I do?

I do try to achieve contrast, variation, and unorthodoxy in every piece, so I'm glad that worked out well here! Once again, thanks so much for the review! Now to go over to your piece and pour some much needed love of my own... ;)

I'm not the one scoring your piece, but really nicely done. Was a very pleasant listen, great arrangement and instrumentation. Keep it up and good luck.

Onefin responds:

Hey, Lockyn! Thanks a BUNCH for the kind words and the follow, it means a lot coming from you! :D

idk what everyone else is hating on but this song is golden (kek). Best thing about this song is the structure -- it knows what to emphasize and when to do it. The fact that this begins in 2step and finishes as a headbanger is too good.

only real nitpick is the percs and even that's not so important, nothing a little maximizing and remastering could fix.

Other nitpicks:
-lomid freq is a tad too low
-treble freq is a tad too high
-subbass melody (could) have some presence/punch in the lomid range (I would add the sub synth raised an octave with slight cutoff so it doesn't drown out what you already have)
-master channel can use some maximization (after everything else is balanced)

personal peeves
-melodies on drops could use some variation
-awkward bongo samples
-wobbles - increase the frequency peak envelope -- make 'em sharper
-how good this song is

Onefin responds:

Hey, Aurgentin! Thanks a bunch for dropping by!

I don't think my track is hated on, it just hasn't gotten all the exposure I hoped. Oh well, I'll take what I have :)

The lomid being too high is probably the result of a bunch of people telling me to raise it, and the treble frequency being too high is probably the result of a bunch of people telling me to raise it. :/ whell thenn

Subbass melody? Which subbass melody?

I have no idea what "maximization" means XD

Melodic variation on drops would probably have been easy to do but I was too lazy to do it XD welp

Aw, I actually like the bongos :(

The frequency peak envelope is all the way at the top, I kinda can't raise it any higher

I really like the beginning, and that drop at 0:53 gave me an eargasm. Your choice of sounds is superb, they sound really well together. I like how it morphs as it goes on. I loved all the different melodies and again, that drop tho. My only issue is that it's a tad too loud, at a few areas it screeched just a bit. Now I'm no expert, but did you mix it? If you did, then I think it could've been better, and if you didn't do some reasearch on it, I think it would make this track perfect. Overall, 4.5/5

Onefin responds:

Thanks for the review!

The loudness is always an issue I struggle with. It usually doesn't ever clip, but my tracks can be loud even in softer sections, and this time I think I may have introduced a bit of clipping just trying to mix it. I had some help with the mix, but in the end I really couldn't get anything sounding REALLY good.

this isn't house music :C

cheese chord progression but the mix is ok

idk how you can make songs in a major chord progression. so cheesy to me hehe

Onefin responds:

Well of course it's not house XD what am I supposed to pick?

This isn't major, this is F#m :/
