Reviews for "How to Pokémon GO"

Nice voice acting and well animated...but (for me at least) the only thing worse than Pokemon GO mania are all the f**kin' parodies. Sorry, I'm about to go on a bit of a rant here (none of which I mean to direct specifically at you).

We get it, Pokemon GO is a thing people are going batsh!t over. Whoopy doo. How many weeks has it been now? And animators/artists out there are still fishing for likes with it?!? I'd much rather see something original any day of the week than to come home and find the very thing I can't avoid seeing everywhere (going to work, at work, leaving work) is now crawling all over the last social media outlet I haven't cut off like a gangrenous limb because it is the last place I can still find creative people doing great things.
These parodies are so formulaic. Minecraft/FNAF/Undertale/PokemonGO. Some game blows up, and everybody jumps on the bandwagon to milk it for all it's worth and well and truly after it's turned to dust. But the worst part is, the majority on offer are completely lacking in sincerity. It's not about making a clever and funny observation about these games, it's entirely about the uploader exploiting someone else's IP to cultivate as many followers as they can with as minimal of creative input as possible.
The only thing lazier than parodies are memes. >.<

Phew. Okay, I'm getting off the soapbox now. Again I wasn't directing any that bile specifically at you. This has been building up for some time now. Your work is really good, in fact your original work is fantastic. It was just the content of this video that had me saying "That's it! I've had enough!" At the end of the day, regardless of what I think, if you wanna make a parody, you go ahead and make a parody. At least yours are actually well done. :-)

Thanks for the kind words!

The interesting thing about this project is the actress who voiced Hilda asked me if I could make the parody, since she was hosting a short screening for game developers/actors/filmmakers, so I took it as a challenge. I love working with her, and since she just wrapped work on a new Netflix series coming out in the fall and a big Hollywood feature due Christmas next year, I want to work with her on as many projects as possible before our creative endeavors become a bit more divided from each other.

The other challenge for this that interested me is that, because of the short turnaround time, I decided to mess around with anime techniques involving limited animation. That was fun, and I learned a bit from it.

My parodies, and really any script I write and actually finish, always start with one bit that I think really works. In this case, it was the "de pokes is in yo' phone" gag. When I came up with that, I thought, "Okay, this deserves to see the light of day." If I don't think I can come up with a funny script for a parody, then I don't bother, and I've passed on many projects and ideas in favor of something else I have something to say about.

animation and sound was solid , nice work!
