Reviews for "Dungeon Screener"

Excellent game. "Easy" difficulty helped me to become number one this month, and top 20 all time I think.

Good balancing of player strength, gold and items VS monsters.

Maybe a version two where you can chose your party-characters?

Foumart responds:

Hey, thanks for the review! The initial idea of this game was only to proof the concept of a battle engine and to test a hi-score system. Both went quite well and I hope to be able to develop a full-featured RPG in the future, with huge random generated world, countless dungeons, character generation and quests..

This turned out to be a lot more interesting than I thought! The best thing was how unique the gameplay was. It seemed a little familiar, but was mostly completely different. It was nice to see these graphics. I'm glad I got some easy medals. I was seriously afraid at how big this game was.

It's amazing how complicated it is. Everything has to be done just right. I'm glad to have come by this. Uh, Happy fourth of July? This seems like an RPG, which are mostly Japanese.

Foumart responds:

Thank you! I'm glad you like the game :)
In fact I really haven't played the Japanese rpgs, only a couple of them: FF1, FF tactics.. but as a kid I was fed up with the predecessors like Bard's Tale and Ultima, especially Ultima IV!
I hope one day to expand Dungeon Screener into a complete adventure with quests and decent story, covering the same aspects Ultima IV had in terms of morality, justice, sacrifice, honor, and even humility. I think a game could have great positive impact over players and rpgs can get really close to player's hearts.

Nice little gem. I love roguelike crawlers. Only thing I don't like about this is that I wish there was more variation in loot. Like if you could find a crossbow instead of a regular bow for the archer, one that does normal damage to 2 enemies instead of huge damage to 1 enemy, something like that. The thing I like most about roguelikes is the loot.

Anyway, 4/5, would play again (I am right now in fact).

I really enjoy this sort of game, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. However, the sound when I got a medal was ridiculously loud. I tried turning down the volume in the settings, but that didn't help at all.
If you could just make the medal sound a lot quieter, that would be great.

Foumart responds:

Thanks for pointing that out!
Had to remove the Medal Popup entirely, because the sound in it can't be controlled. Just replaced it with a subtle text message. Enjoy :)

A pretty great game.

While you can't say much about the story, the gameplay style is unique. I haven't seen a game quite like this before, and I love it. It's hard for me to express this game through words.

The reason I bumped it down to 4 stars was? Even on normal mode, it's just. So. Hard.

I ended up going through a total party kill on the second level. Before that, on the same level, my Cleric died twice - as if they were singled out - even though my knight was supposed to be guarding. I could just not be understanding how guarding works, but it doesn't make sense to me that he would just stand there when the Cleric was attacked and brutally slain twice. Guarding sounds like it would involve more...Well, guarding.

Foumart responds:

Thank you for the feedback.
Knight protects the party from physical melee attacks, but ranged units and spell-casters strike regardless his guard. Magic harms the entire party anyways - in most cases the priority is to knock out spell-casters first.
The game constantly introduces new enemies throughout the levels and some are quite dangerous when you first meet them, so be careful :)
