Reviews for "about-face"

Very good platformer/puzzler. My only gripes are that the window is very small and that the game intermittently freezes for a few seconds.

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not, but once I got the x10 jump, the game kept just exiting. I'd click continue game and the entire game would slow down and then kick me out again.

Seems like it could be plot, but I also have no idea what it would be asking me to do.

The game is pretty laggy. Everytime I jump it gives me a lag spike, and I die because I phase through the ground. Great work though.

So... this is a pretty nice puzzle you have there. Sure, the "story" is kind of predictable, but the game play, however simple, is pretty nice.

I really like the monochrome presentation, plus the ambient music that changes whenever we switch. The pixel graphics are simple, but in this case, they absolutely have to be. Making them more detailed would pretty much ruin the experience.

As far as gameplay goes, this is a puzzle platformer, with spikes, double jumps, chainsaws that chase you, etcetera. The twist to it is that, whenever you jump, you switch between two realities, all of which have their own platforms and obstacles, meaning you sometimes need to switch to get past an obstacle or get a platform under your feet. The set of features itself is rather straight forward, and pretty similar to that of many other puzzle platformers. What makes this pretty nice is the level design. All levels require quick action and a little bit of thinking, and whenever a new feature is introduced (like double jumps), there are a handful of tutorial-esque parts to get you habituated to the new power. Every level felt like a fair challenge, not too hard nor too easy, and overall, the game's really satisfying.

In most levels, this is, for real, a puzzle platformer, in that whenever you're having a hard time getting past a part, chances are you haven't figured out what you must do to cross it, instead of having the right solution in mind but having a hard time executing it which is common in action platformers. However, when you approach the end of the game, accurate timing and speed become key in getting past certain parts, which obviously makes those parts a lot harder than the rest of the game.

The story is pretty simple: the main character meets this two-faced dude, and gets introduced to the power of reality shifting. One of the dude's faces keeps telling him to stop, while the other face keeps incentivating him to go on. What happens next is kind of predictable, but I won't spoil it anyway. Still, as predictable as this story is, it's by no means terrible, and not at all the game's focus anyway, so it's okay. I do like how things take a turn for the crazy and psychedelic by the end, though.

The length is satisfying as well. It's not too short, nor too long, and ends just when it has to. It is in general a pretty nice and quick experience, which is to be expected from casual games. So yeah, I highly recommend this to anyone who likes puzzle platformers. Except... the game doesn't quite end, or I didn't get it, not sure.

In the Last few levels , I experienced one of the most annoying lag i've seen. I loved the gameplay but the lag made it impossible to finish.
