Reviews for "Animal Squad!"

Great game you guys! You've all worked very hard :)

yaup responds:

Aww thanks Carson! You guys too! Probably a lot more so than us too :P

Very glad to see those spikes have retracted into the wall since the beta. :P

Great design and clever mechanics. The different combinations of player form definitely add a lot of variety to the levels. The level designs are pretty good all around but some feel a little unfair at times (especially when you can't see what it at the bottom of a drop). This can be irritating. Also, the visuals could definitely do with some improvement.

The design and mechanics are great though. Very clever and fun. ;)

yaup responds:

Hmmm yeah. It seems like people aren't super fond of those spikes. We were hoping that restarting a level and knowing what to watch out for will be a quick part of learning the level, but maybe that's more trouble than it's worth?

Thanks for the feedback!

Cool, played all the way through. Of course improvements would be adding more animation and story detail. I'd like to see the ability for the animals to level up, too, like letting the cat climb ceilings and stick to walls without sliding, the bird being able to flap and so fly up, and maybe let the turtle walk without having to stop to block arrows.

yaup responds:

Hmmm that was definitely something we considered while developing. And if we have time, it's definitely something we could possibly do in the future!

I'm guessing this was originally made for Ludum Dare 35?

Anyway, it's cool. The animals all have their uses, and you clearly have some level design chops that make it all work. The cat wall-sticking sprite brought me great joy.

A few things that you might want to update if you want to polish this a little more--the tiny gap in level 4 (I think the idea is to stick to the wall as the cat, turn into the ball, and then go through) is hard to get into, I found myself floating next to it a lot before figuring out I could jump while floating to right myself. Also, sometimes I had to navigate later levels by guesswork, which is fine, but a minimap or a teensy bit more viewing space would be very nice.

yaup responds:

Haha no, the matching theme is complete coincidence.

And hmmm We'll definitely think about how to make level directions more obvious! It is part of our goal to hopefully add in some more exploration towards the later levels, but perhaps those aren't as intuitive as they could be?

Thanks for the feedback!
