Knowing Knuckles in canon, I doubt he's ever going to fall for that again. He's too forgiving and in recent installments he realizes that Eggman can't be trusted. I know a lot of fans think that it's because he's somehow unintelligent but in actuality, he's really one of the smartest characters, he's just gullible sometimes.
I can just imagine Eggman picking up the emerald and the island dropping back into the sea
