Reviews for "The Devil's Daughter"

This game, bugs and lag ignored, is actually a good platformer. This game managed to contain and express a dark, and at the same time charming, gameplay. This game was made in 72 hours, I wouldn't mind if this was improved.

fun game, frustrating as hell in three specific stages. I would do art of this game if I could...

LOL, what is this, Panty and Stocking? XD

This game is horrible, filthy, disgusting, and I love it!

The storyline and the extremely cheesy and profane voice acting are a great way to kick off this dark, cruel comedy action game, it cracked me up more than once. I love the graphical style, it's gritty, hellish, but it's also kinda cutesy somehow. The music's composed of some pretty intense electronic tunes that I really like as well, but I wish there was some Black Metal (get it, because it's about the devil, snicker snicker).

The gameplay is an action platformer where you travel around this hell-city of sorts while collecting souls and shooting the ever loving shit out of people to get their souls in order to buy shoes. The platforming part flows almost perfectly, and the shooting is very satisfying. I love how you can destroy pretty much everything in the scenery by shooting. The variety in weapons is awesome as well, I particularly love the profanity laser, it cracked me up big time. One problem I have is that, in the vein of games like Contra, there's no way to switch weapons to one you have previously gotten, which is kind of a bummer if you get stuck with a weapon you hate.

The level design is mostly good. The stages are in a linear action style (like, say, Contra or Megaman), presenting challenge after challenge composed of platforming parts that go from basic to pretty extreme, enemies that can shoot you with different weapons, spike hazards, floaty springs, tricky wall jumps and a crazy boss battle at the end. The difficulty curve scales mostly alright, going from mostly easy to medium-hard, and then to very hard in the last stage... just so it can plummet back to pretty easy in the final boss. The challenge feels mostly fair and balanced (save for a few instances described below), and quite rewarding. The final boss was easy, but it was pretty fun to beat nonetheless.

There are a few parts where the level design could have been better. The random nature of the weapon crates doesn't help much, since it makes the difficulty of each stage rather inconsistent, since depending on the weapon you get, certain sections can be either painfully frustrating, or ridiculously easy (I only managed to beat the last stage before the boss because I was lucky enough to get the kitty in the second box and the profanity laser in the first, and I consistently failed runs where I got the flamethrower or the uzi). The level with the key is kinda unfair as well, since you need to be aware that the falling blocks section is the only way to return to the door, meaning you have to to use them in a way that you can still return through them, and there's no way to know in advance.

All things considered, the game provided quite a bit of challenge, was pretty enjoyable throughout, had awesome graphics and music, hilarious storyline, dialogs and voice acting, and the ending cracked me up big time. It's impressive that this was made in 72 hours, and I think this is a running contestant in this Ludum Dare with a great chance of winning.

Game deserves a higher score in my opinion.
It's a fun nifty platformer with a lovely art style to compliment it.Story isn't something special but it's simple enough to enjoy. My only grudge is that sometimes the jump lagged and led to some rather rage inducing deaths(especially on the level before the boss).I would have also wanted to see a little bit more content but given the limited time you had it's understandable.

Overall keep up the great work, mate!
