Reviews for "Through (#gbjam 4 version)"

It seems like this is a very good engine for a game that could be very challenging. I admit, I couldn't really envision a complete path through most (any?) levels until I really embarked and thought "meh, let's just see if this works", which is a good sign of how challenging of a puzzler this could be. But like a couple of the previous reviews said, the level designs so far have been straightforward enough that there hasn't been a whole lot of puzzle-solving necessary and I've been able to just run through and eventually find the way out. Future levels could definitely use some branching paths with a lot of dead ends for players who don't know what they're doing.

And since I'm a "musician" after all, it would be nice to use a longer and better loop for the background muzak.

Wow, really nice idea. The sound is loud and jarring, and should at least have a mute option, but the graphics style didn't bother me. In fact, the line-style really fits the dimension hopping motif. From a geometric perspective, this was pretty cool. I had trouble actually envisioning what each new screen was going to look like, but you've made the path through every level pretty clear. Once we start having multiple options, it will get difficult. I envision a lot of running in circles.

Make sure you have a "return to title" menu at the end of your game. Otherwise, the game just sits there on "to be continued..." and the player has to reload the entire page if they want to play again.

It's very well done. Kinda minimalist, but I guess that's not a bad thing, heh. The thing that bothered me, though, was that in each puzzle there was really only one way through. I often got into a mode of simply looking for the next wall I could "through"; I didn't bother thinking about WHY or HOW, or trying to SOLVE anything, I just kept walking along until I got to the end. Seems like kind of a weakness for a puzzle game. Good job with what you have, though!

I'm always for minimalistic pixel platformers and you have combined that with a very great concept. It takes a moment to get how the different dimensions work, but from then on one can fully enjoy the whole experience.
A total 12 levels is a bit short, yes, especially stopping immediately after introducing spikes, but it's a great start. I am looking forward to seeing the full version you're working on.
Keep up the good work :)

Fun concept and I like the minimalist style. It was a bit confusing at 1st, specially when there were several dimensions but that was part of the fun of discovering the game :)
