Reviews for "NWAR: Broken Records"

Really enjoyed this. The animation style is simple but perfect for this sort of story. Great work.

danmarkowitz responds:

Thank you!

Love these episodes!

danmarkowitz responds:

Thanks a lot!

This was really well written like the other ones of course, the puns were fun at first but did start to run a little dry but the laser pointer joke still made me laugh. The art is also enjoyable and even though its black and white the textures on all the objects give it a nice look i guess, i dunno how to word this i just liked it and keep it up! :D

danmarkowitz responds:

Thank you!

YAy!! i love this!! good job!! But it strangely reminds me of regular show? i can't explain it but it does!

danmarkowitz responds:

Haven't watched Regular Show before, but maybe I need to check it out!

Good as always. I love how they get evidence from a "super high-tech recorder" in an episode with all the low tech records. OMG technology! Also love the reference of playing the record backwards and it sounding demonic. And the laser pointer joke killed me. Well, it at least blinded me.

In perspective, I find it interesting how long this arc has gone on. It adds a neat story to the series. But due to the more standalone nature of most of the episodes before this arc, I had not been expecting what was essentially a 4 part arc and that's just so far. Despite the more standalone format of the first 10 episodes, I thought you had still managed to have good overall plot development in those. Not saying this arc is a bad thing or that the development is better in one or the other. Again, this arc has been quite interesting. It is just that I hadn't expected 4+ before you even came out with a 2 part. But then again, the episodes are short so what does the episode count really mean. 10 versus 20 minutes? Meh. Maybe not that big a difference as it feels.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not giving any critique, preference, advice, or anything else about the format of standalone versus long arcs or the occasional 2 part arc or whatever you decide to do. It simply occurred to me how big a jump that is. I was thrown a bit off guard, and it was so sneaky I didn't see him coming even after I had been thrown. Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention again. Either way, it was an observation I thought was worth mentioning. Make of it what you will.

danmarkowitz responds:

Thanks a lot! Yeah, it was a conscious decision to try a more overarching plot this season, but still have each episode focus on one separate part of the Nwar universe (a politics episode, a prison episode, this is the journalism episode, next month is a court/lawyers episode, etc). I wasn't really thinking of this as a "part 2," so much as 11-12-13-14 all linking together, while still each having a complete story of their own. It hasn't always succeeded, but it's been a fun challenge!

The next season will still have a big plot hanging over everything, but it will be looser. I had a few ideas for episodes I wanted to do this year, but there was no way to make them fit in when Nwar is a fugitive and every episode ends on a cliffhanger setting up the next one. So I'm looking forward to things getting more episodic, and not being locked in to where the last episode ended. Either way, thanks for thinking about all that, because I have too!
