Reviews for "Resonant Voices"

Graphics are consistent, music is bland but okay, and the mechanics of the gameplay are fine. It is a very challenging game, but that's not an inherently bad thing.
..That being said, there are issues that -if fixed- would make this a FAR better game:

--the game crashes flash after day 35. I've tried six times, played other games between attempts, closed and re-opened firefox, updated flash, and it still just crashes flash every time.
--the tutorial is either a joke, unfinished, or intended to leave the player without a full explanation. Once you hit the crossbow guys, if you die you restore at the outside point, without any explanation on the difference between xp and health bubbles (or even that health bubbles exist), no way to find the tutorial building again, no way to replay the tutorial, and no idea what your goal is.
--there is no map (mini or otherwise). Or even an option to open a map. This is frustrating.
--the description talks about a dungeon and traps. Outside the -brief- tutorial, there is no dungeon, and there are no traps. Why have we been lied to?
--The gameplay seems geared towards the player being an assassin/sniper, not a grinding fighter, but there's no flavor text to tell us that. Frustrating.
--I can't seem to see any indicator for when a day is going to end, which given that such is a significant factor in the game, is frustrating.
--and the amount of xp loss upon death is extreme (especially early on), if you wanted to make this a very challenging game, congratulations. If that's not your intent, you may want to scale it back a bit.

I would have loved to give this game more stars (5 was definitely possible for it), but the issues were just too distracting from the fun. A good try, maybe it can be fixed for re-release later.

I enjoyed the idea behind this game, but here're some things that stopped me from playing any further:

- I think that the punishment for death is far too severe. It's enough that tougher enemies spawn and you lose a chance to fight equally matched opponents. To lose EXP on top of that is just frustrating and makes it far more difficult to fight next-day enemies.

- The game feels too decentralized. Wasn't sure what the point of it was after the tutorial. I got the impression that this is a survival game, but even then, some sense of direction would be nice.

- Although I like that you've added weight to the player's rotation, it's too unresponsive for a tight gameplay experience. Maybe reduce the easing factor so that the player rotates more quickly?

Anyways, again, I really like the idea behind this game. With some more polishing and a bit more depth, I would probably play it for a good amount of time :)

-every level is the ice level
-guy reacts with the speed of a dump truck
-can't tell what'll 1 hit or soak up the damage
-annoying 5 second soundtrack
-game runs in a tiny window, in the likely chance your mouse goes off it and you click to dash you'll lose all response

+it's one of the few somewhat interesting ideas to be submitted to the site in 10 years.

interesting idea, I'd add the crossbow players later in the game as they are quite hard
