Reviews for "Mr. Sickness"

Good John Buddy

I think I have an idea of what happened in this, and great animation btw.
Mr. Sickness was a being who embodies life, where the Grim Reaper is a being who embodies death.
However, Mr. Sickness can only prolong life, not reverse death. Thus, Mr. Sickness appears where he is needed and attempts to prevent death, however, death will not wait. When Mr. Sickness is not paying attention and cannot save them, death strikes, and kills however he can, like in Final Destination, but with a more direct approach. Thus, this ends up being a battle between Mr. Sicknesses abilities and time.
Death always happens. It's simply a matter of time.
Overall, I liked the animation. The style was simple, but that's what I liked about it. The story is a sad but true one, and I love the thought of it. Using a plague doctor mask for Mr. Sickness's face was an amazing design choice, and the fact that the mask blends with his skin further encourages that he is not a being of this world. The music set the ambiance brilliantly, and I loved this thing. Thank you for bringing this about. I would honestly consider continuing Mr. Sickness's story in some way, maybe him trying to save more people, only for them to be claimed by Death. If you do, it would be invaluable to keep this same silent mysterious style.

I dont understand a shit what the animation is all about, but is beatiful!

I don't really get what happened here, but I like the film on TV, which they were watching.

The animation wasn't too bad: sure, it may not be the most polished but it was still watchable. Unfortunately, it appears as though it didn't serve the story as well as it could have, not through poor quality of the artwork but rather through the choices of how to animate it. I watched the video a few times to try and get the sense of what was happening, but couldn't come to a conclusion that really pulled everything together.

There isn't an explanation of why Mr. Sickness (if that's who the red figure with the 14th century style bird gas mask face was, which I thought was a great choice by the way) goes out of his way to nurse this girl back to health. The death of the girl is even more inexplicable - she goes from getting better and looking happier (while they're watching tv) to apparently waking up in the middle of the night and committing suicide. That's my best guess anyway, from the way she looked when she woke up and considering that the arm had cuts rather than any traditional symptoms of disease. If, in fact, the disease suddenly re-surged and caught her unaware, the artwork didn't support that.

The music was well chosen and the subject matter was engaging, but there were a whole host of things that were crying out for development: such as why Mr. Sickness apparently has a Monkey D. Luffy stretchy arm, which was used once and then never looked at again! Or why and how he leaked out of the ceiling?! I couldn't be 100% sure, but I never saw the girls legs below the knee which leads me to believe she's an amputee. Why's she an amputee? Where are her family/loved ones? The video left me with more questions than answers and it feels like a shame to move on without really getting a proper sense of what could have been a fully formed story.

Even so, I was engaged enough to write a review. With a little more input you can turn this and videos like it from a concept into a complete, self-explained work. Thank you for your hard work!
